Unable to Get Odmeter to Remain

Featured Replies

Having just picked up my new 2.0TdiCR, i asked the garage to stop what was happening to my previous 1.9Tdi Elegance. once the ignition was on teh Odometer reverted to Trip Mileage. I didn't want this happening to my new car. i remember reading somewhere that this can be changed by plugging into VAGCOM, by the dealer. i asked them to make sure that this didnt happen on the new one, but they didn't really know what I was talking about. When we started the new car, the overall mileage stayed, so in agreement with the salesman, we agreed that this was probalby due to new Maxidot diplay, and different face. However, after test driving for 20 mins, I noticed that the mileage was again missing. This time it had been replaced in the bottom right hand corner of the maxidot with current K/hr, which happens when the vehivles goes above 5mph.

Does anyone know if this can be changed by the user now? or even the dealer via VAGCOM connection???????

I don't have a maxi dot but have a full screen on my car........however the same thing used to happen on my car.....the odo was replaced by mph once the car crossed 5mph...

the solution....

I turned the trip button (small black button -bottom right of the screen) till the odo started flashing, then u press the trip button and the odo stays on all the time....

hope this helps

Many thanks. I'll give it a go.

Don't know if the Maxidot set up is the same as the Superby, but you get Total mileage travelled and two trip meters. One for each journey that restes each time you start a journey if there has been a gap (unsure of the time gap though) and another for overall trip which you can reset manually. I think to flip between the two you just pres the thumb wheel on the steering wheel.

Thanks for advice, but alas, it didn't work. I tried moving the dial in the left corner and all it did was cycle through setting the clock and the service interval. Heading oer to Skoda to collect an item left in the car and ask one of their service engineers for some advice.

Is your car a new FL model? Does it have maxidot? The standard display on the FL is white on black but they don't all have maxidot.

My FL Elegance with maxidot has a permanent display on the bottom 3 lines: on the bottom line total miles and trip miles., next line up is kph and next line up is outside temperature.

My mates FL Elegance has the standard non-maxidot display that does what you describe.

Now I have presumed that when talking about Maxidot this refers to the Multifunctional Indicator display? I've got the one shown on page 19 top right hand corner of the car's manual. It shows Time, Computer information (1 and 2) then Trip mileage, followed by Odomoter (Current Vehicle Mileage). However, once reaching 5mph, the Odometer switches to display Km/h indicated speed. There's also a note in the manual that says "IF vehicles are fitted with the information display* the display of the second speed is activated in mph or km/h, this driving speed is indicated instead of the counter for the toatl distacne driven." (page17 bottom corner)

After talking to one of the Skoda Engineers, this is a legal requirement because there is no Km/h on the Speedometer. He also said that as far as he's aware it cannot be changed and there is no provision on the FL model for this.

It all means that I'll never see the car complete specific landmarks. The first 100 miles, passing through 1000 mls etc. Call it some sort of compulsive dissorder, all that I know is that it's going to drive me mad. if anyone's got any idea's it'll be appreciated.

I suppose this is going to be my 1 complaint about the car.

Your dealer is correct.

As I understand it, by law, the car must display both MPH and KPH.

Normally, in the UK, the speedo would have both measures indicated by the needle, one above and one below.

The Octavia only has MPH on the dial so the reason your car's LCD display keeps reverting back to KPH is to ensure you have both measures of speed on display at the same time.

I think the ability to change it in Maxidot doesn't exist to prevent you from changing it.

Sounds like you have the standard display not the maxidot.

My mums Seat Altea is the same. I wondered why as I found it really annoying and was told the same thing about the speedo not being marked with kph but it being a legal requirement that the car had a readout in kph.

Bloody stupid if you ask me!

From the August 2010 brochure I have, the Maxi Dot is an option on the Elegance but standard on the L&K.

If u have VCDS....

u can go into instrumnets>>>>coding>>>>long coding helper>>>>bit 4-7 will allow you to change the full screen (only on non-maxidot ) country settings to rest of world or any other that country that can help you sort out your problem...

hope this sorts you out !

I do not have maxidot and can only see the odometer display when the car is stationary. A PITA if I wonder how long to the service when on my commute.

The garage asked me how many miles the car had done, errr was my reply.

see post #2 if it helps you in any way !

When stationary, with the key out, the only thing that flashes with the knob turned is the clock. I can view the mileage to the next service or the odometer, by turning knob to left or to right.

Or do I have to try this on the move above 5 mph?

No nothing like that ...

switch on the car ...

turn the trip button left...it'll cycle through

1) hours

2) minutes

3) service menu - ( days to go fr service & kms to go etc )

4) then the odo will start flashing...when this happens you press the trip button ...

Just tried that, sequence exactly as above, but the odometer does not flash and is displayed steadily.

I'm sorry but what exactly do you want to get on your screen??

Just trying to follow your instructions so that " the odo started flashing, then u press the trip button and the odo stays on all the time....".

But as I said the odometer will not flash on mine. And does not display all the time. Thanks anyway.

What a stupid feature to get around having only one set of numbers on the dials! Golf Estate, Octy Estate or Altea XL were all under consideration as our next car, but as they all have the same issue we may well have to look elsewhere. It'd do my head in (petty, I know), but SWMBO just wouldn't know where to look when we went to France on holiday!

PS: How hard can it be to have two sets of numbers on the dials?

Do u have vcds??
