Rear wiper, electric windows, radio faults

Featured Replies

Hi all. Not that these are serious issues, but I would like to get them sorted out sooner rather than later & I could do with some help if possible, please - I've tried searching for answers & would like to confirm if I'm on the right track before talking to the dealer again.

Background: 2007 R2 1.9, approx 32k miles (barely run in! ). Car was serviced last week.

- Rear washer stopped working in the cold spell, suspected pipe had popped off somewhere. They've sorted out the washer, which now works - now the wiper doesn't instead... :dull: I've checked the fuses (both #40 & 44 as I wasn't sure which was the front & which the back...) and they're fine. I can't see any other fuses which are likely to be it. Planning on taking the car in tomorrow lunchtime to get them to have a look but would prefer to keep my lunchbreak for myself if I can get it sorted - presumably something straightforward?

- Radio unit has - twice, ever - turned on but not produced any sound on aux, CD or radio. No huge issue as it came back when I next drove the car but I'd like to get it sorted.

- Front (electric) window fault - started having issues in September with them. Started off as not going down. This sorted itself out within a couple of days, but then had other problems in December with the windows going down, then either coming up but heading back down as soon as they reached the top, or not coming up, or winding by a couple of mm each time the button was pressed. I've also had problems with the one-touch raising/lowering not working. They reprogrammed the relevant control unit (convenience control unit?) last week but I've had problems again since. I *think* the problem only happens when it's wet/raining but I'm not 100%.

The car is currently covered by an aftermarket warranty recommended by the dealer, so I'd like to get any parts replacement issues sorted out as soon as possible so the problems go away. Other than that, the car has been fantastic for the 2.5 years I've had it and we're planning on keeping here for a good while yet.

Thanks for the help.

If it covered by the aftermarket warranty, why not get these done on that?

My radio used to go silent until next time the ignition ws turned on occasionally. it was replaced under warranty and I've had no more trouble.

My rear windows occasionally do what you described but so rarely that I haven't done anything about it yet.

The radio does seem to be a bit of a problem in the first generation Roomster. Our -07 1.9 TDI also had this 3 or times (during 3 years, but anyway): turning on the engine and the radio was silent. This was always fixed by shutting of the engine, removing the key and restarting.

Another radio-related issue we had was that the antenna was leaking a bit into the car, and as a result of this the connection in the antenna base corroded and we had effectively no aerial at all => radio listening was not possible outside city centres. From what I read this antenna malfunction is a fairly common problem on cars that do not have the glass roof, ie antenna at the front part of the car directly over the internal light module.

I am astounded by what happened to my car last night , I have a brand new (6 days old) skoda roomster 1.4 , we went to theatre on arrival all windows were checked ( i had 4 passengers/witnesses) and the door locked by remote control key. when we came out the car was still locked but every window was open to some degree , the front ones alot lower than the back and the back ones a different heights.if I hadn't had witnesses I would have believed it was an hallucination, lol. has anyone ever had this with any car ever , or is there some techie out there who can explain how this is even possible.

The electric windows problem on the roomster is not that rare, especially for the big rear windows. I read a lot of reports from italian owners and from time to time the left rear window in my roomie behaves weirdly. Skoda Italy supervisors concluded there is some fault in the safety system programming and we are actually waiting for some official software updates.

This is particularly true for some cases where they had all the relevant mechanical parts (glass, frames, mechanisms, electric motors...) replaced with no result. Also, the problems seem to increase in number of occurrences under strong sun exposure or using the remote window opening function.

problema alzacristalli roomster

Well today my rear windows are afflicted with this werid behaviour. They open, but the one touch works only sometimes. It never works going up and sometimes they only go up a few mm, then go up normally. Also, non of the windows work using the remote now. FFS VAG, Ive had so many Fiats with windows that work for years but every VAG car Ive had, which is two Skodas and two VWs have had window issues

when we came out the car was still locked but every window was open to some degree
Have a read of page 44 of the owners manual, "Window convenience operation". It is possible to open and close windows just by holding down the lock and unlock buttons on the car key. Maybe you held the button down longer than you thought or you put the remote into a pocket or bag where a button got pressed.

Read the owners manual about the "Force limiter reset"

When I collected my Roomster the rear drivers side window would not operate from any button inside the car. Using the remote to open all windows and then close them allowed me to reset the window and now all of them work as they should.

I assure you, I tried all things necessary, all mandatory reset procedures and all tricks including 'Gummi-pflege' and similar lubricants. So did other roomster owners, but the problem is more serious and widespread, as Skoda Italy has acknowledged. Waiting for official tricks, now.

My advice is, if you have tried all the recommended fixes, put the pressure on the Skoda Service. We are doing it from Italy, maybe with some european collaboration they will act faster and find a useful solution for all of us. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Well today I tried disconnecting the battery, no result rear windows still not working properly and eventually the fronts did the same! Went shopping this afternoon and lo and behold all four windows are now working perfectly again. Im not going to use the convenience mode again as that seems to be the thing affecting the workings of these windows!

Ill mention this to my dealer at the first service unless they pack up again.
