Rear door OEM speaker wiring ?

Featured Replies

Bought TSI few months ago with only OEM speakers in front and after alot of nagging from kids need to put OEM speakers in rear doors.

took the rear door card off and rear wiring is missing .

Wondering someone has any idea on how to go about rear door speaker wiring ?

Do rear speakers connect to the front door speaker wiring or just runs straight to the HU?

You will need to run speaker cable from hu to the rear doors. I guess you would have to peel off the paper/cardboard covering the speaker hole (well, it's like that on the pre fl fabia). i tried taking the door cards out and it's a pain without breaking the fragile clips.

I think it's going to be easier to just buy some aftermarket 6.5inch co-axials and fit them in the doors as u won't need to mess around with cutting out the blanking plate for the tweeter.

I've got some co-axials in mine if you're interested

oh, if it's just for the kids then any cheap speakers will probably do. i have my speakers faded to the front most of the time, it sounds like it gives the front speakers a little more power and sounds better.

no, they are too small, as i said in the other thread you need 6.5 inch speakers.

just go for some 6.5 inch co-axials. they don't have to be 'skoda' branded

......any recomendations(brand etc.) ???

yeah mine because i'm selling them.

it depends on what music, budget, it's personal preference really on what speakers to get.. For a bit of quality background music you won't go too far wrong with stuff from JL, Hertz, Rainbow, Audison, Focal to name a few. If it's running off the hu, go for budget end of these rather than high end as they'll be better amplified.

I'd avoid stuff from the budget end of Vibe, Alpine, Edge, Mutant, Boss, Pyle, Sony, if you want proper hi fi quality.

If you're not too bothered about sound quality, then some cheap 6.5inch co-axials will do.

I might be wrong but i'd be careful here. Most VAG group cars ordered without rear speakers have a HU with only 2 channels for the front. My wifes Polo is exactly like this....head unit looks identical to that of an 8 speaker car (is MP3 compatible and has a 6 CD changer) but if you press the sound/balance/fader option it only allows you to change the balance indicating that it cannot drive rear speakers. Of course the Swing unit in the current Fabia may well be different (i.e has a 4 channel amp but without the speakers and wiring).

Thought I should say something having considered the same move with our Polo a while ago. Is worth investigating before taking the plunge.

.....many thanks for the tip............

...i have replaced tghe swing radio with a Columbus navigation(rns 510 amazing unit )

The two/four channel difference is normally just a coding difference rather than there being a difference in the headunit itself. As soon as its recoded the fader appears in the menu.

Wondered if that might be the case, makes sense!

..............it was just about plug and play took me 10 minutes for the hole lot ..............

---took the original facial off

-took 4 skrues off

-disconected the quadlock connector and the antenna connector

...so in goes the columbus reversing the above steps and that was it.

......last thing i needed to code the the steering weel with the maaxidot to get the gps arrows

........thats all

..... i have only the 2 front door speakers and the fader shows only 2(fader) there is no 4 speaker fader , is this because im only running 2 or a code issue??

I thought you had to have the factory GPS antenna (built into the roof aerial) or a 3rd party one hidden in the dash to get GPS working?

  • Author

hi pipsyp,

..............you a defintly right i just forgot all about it since it was in june i done the instalation.

Yes i do have a (3rd party one hidden in the dash to get GPS working)a GPS antenna that runs from the back side of the Columbus connector through to the front passngers side carpet and i manage to bring it up to one of the corners of the dashboard/windscreen..the GPS antenna ends up with a little rectangular plastic box the size of a box of matches.

i tried hiding it above the columbus where there was some space but i had problems with the reception and it thought i was in germany, i think there was some kind of metal interference.

once placed in the dashboard corner you really have to look to pick it up as it blends in well ,and no more reception problems.

I previously had a portable tomtom witha suction cup in my old car and although it worked well was annoyed with the suction cup and charger and the cable runing all over the place .

sometimes the suction cup came off while driving..............................

The columbus was a big relife being integrated ... i just love it.

i have also adde the voice control but dont find it too efective.

i would defintly never go back to a portable nav.

my next project that im working on is to get a rear view camera connected to the columbus and a pair of rear door speaker as the kids are complaing that they cant hear the music when driving with the front speakers enough.

I need to reposition the window winder so that my daughter doesn't kick it and open the window, does it just pull off or is there a circlip or something there?

I know that in the mark 1 fabia there is a ring around the window winder which you just pull off, not sure if it's the same on the mark 2 fabia, could give it a try.

Thanks, I'll have a look. I didn't want to just yank it in case I broke something!

  • 2 years later...

I have 2010. Fabia Ambiente with no rear speakers. I do have central locking though, and when I removed the small ribbed hose that holds the cables for each door, there is 6 (six) wires going into each rear door. I do not have electric windows in the rear doors, central locking is the only electric powered thing in the rear doors. So, i presume that electric locking needs 2 od max. 3 wires, so what for are the other 4 or 3 wires? I also suppose that two are for speakers, and two for windows?

they could be for anything.

edit: just have a look behind the headunit to see if the cables for rear speakers are connected.

if you dont have rear speakers at the back i mostly doubt that they have runned the back wires as this is a option you can choose when ordering the car with rear speakers, there was no speakers at rear with mine and there were no cables ,so i had to run them from the head unit ,i of course had to check as fabia says to see if the cables for rear speakers are connected or exist.

if you bought the car second hand there might have had rear speakers in the back and just took them out.

how can you tell if there are speakers in the back as i think they are hard to see behind the door cover unless ofcourse you can hear them :)

...your best bet is to take of the door cover that way you can see what is connected and is there and what not otherwise you need a good magician ,it takes about 10 minutes to take the door cover of(i can do it in 5 minutes) and t´here are plenty of guides here.

Thanks, I will take a look behind the door cover.

I bought the car new, but I have aftermarket HU, Pioneer DEH (some number). 6 cables in the door cannot be for anything else but central locking, electric windows and speakers, so 2 for each of them makes it six.
