Will this fit?!?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

first, srry for my bad English, i'm from the Netherlands...

Second: I got 195/65/15 rims on my octavia facelift (2010)

I've seen some real oldskool Gullideckel rims in 18 inch.

But the tyres are 245/40/18, will this fit?

Please give me some advice because I love those rims.

Best regards,

Sebas

Hi Sebas,

I have very recently fitted 18" interlagos wheels (from a vw passat cc) to my Octy 2. The wheels are 18x 8J, ET45 wearing 225/40/18 tyres. I have done a lot of research into this and ultimately found out that the wheel offset (or ET) is the holy grail. Bear in mind that the ET/offset will differ for different wheel widths (note the lower the ET number, the more it sticks out). So based on my own experience, a 8J with ET45 is about maximum an Octy 2 wheel arch can take without scrubbing. And this is with standard suspension set-up (no lowered springs).

I had, in a different section of Briskoda, suggested that we set up a data base of offsets with various wheel widths for the various Skoda models so that people like you and me have a ready reckoner to work with when shopping for wheels.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

245 wide tyres will rub like a lot, I tried running some alloys with 235 wide tyres on and they were bad enough.

The speedometer error that would be introduced will also make your speedo show a lot slower than you are really travelling at. I know in Holland you have a lot of speed cameras so this may also be a big issue for you.

google "tyre size calculator" to see how the two tyres compare.

i just checked for you - the larger tyre is 3% greater rolling radius so that's too much of a difference vs. the OE tyre. Also at 245 width there's a risk you'd get some rubbing.

You need 5x112 pcd (you didn't mention that) to fit the hub, and a combination of the wheel width and offset (et) to calculate if the wheel is appropriate ie it won't foul the arch plus you also need to check the centre bore is right for the octy.

The Rims are 5x112 and ET48

I guess the biggest problem is the 245 part of the tyre?

Sebas

I'm running 18x8s, ET42 with no problem at all. And it's on coilovers, and often is fully laden. But I use a 225/40/18 tyre. People have trouble at times with 235s scrubbing, so two sizes up isn't a good idea.

You need to get the combination of wheel width and offset correct, along with the right tyre width. You don't mention how wide these alloys are. But you really need to address the tyre width issue and fit some 225s.

The wheel is 8J.

The wheel is 8J.

.. then the wheel should be fine. If you replace those tyres with some 225/40 18's then you'll be within 0.4% of the original rolling radius so you should be fine in terms of fit on the car and your speedo should be still accurate.

N.b. post pics when there's on

That sort of wheel would not be my favourite on an octavia but it'll certainly be different.

At least you wont see this on every corner B)

The wheels are not chromed ore something, just plain silver in mint condition from the original car.

Here's another pic so you can see the looks. (chromed but you get the picture)

Yep, as Rob says - wheels will be fine (and different!) but the tyres need swapping to 225s. I'm sure the TT uses that size on some models, so you might be able to sell them on that way.

Just trying to fins an answer to my question hence why an old thread has re-surfaced.

Looking around for another set of 18" alloys to fit winter rubber to.

Standard 18" Zeniths are:

18 x 5 x 112 - 7.5J Offset ET51 Tyres size 225x40x18

What else will fit?

Will some Audi S line alloys fit?

18 x 5 x 112 - 8J (dont know the offset)

What other size wheels will fit stright on?

Hi Octimark

8x18 with an ET as low as 44 will fit without changing anything on the car.

Lower ETs will get you rubbing.

The tyres will have to be 225/40 x 18, as standard on a VRS.

The 245/40 x 18 is the sizes that fits my A6 and those arches are way bigger than the Octavias.

Thanks magic.

I'm trying to fins a cost effective winter set up but they have to be 18" to clear my brakes. I dont hold much hope, I can but try

I have no idea about different sizes, offsets and J's etc hence my question when trawling the internet and ebay for something that will fit and give me the widest search possible to find a cheap set of wheels to fit tyres to.

OK, then stick to the data max 8J wide and min ET of 44. There are a lot of wheels with 5x112, just search the VAG modells.
