Which tyres and brakes?

Featured Replies

Mytyres stock them......... at £122 each :o

If I can't buy them, I'm not sure what I'll buy instead.

I can only see them with the 'V' speed rating on Mytyres - that's a scandalous price all the same - you can get 205 55 16 for £75 fully fitted!

I now wish I'd just replaced all four tyres when I had the chance but hindsight's a wonderful thing as they say. I've got 4mm left on the front; not panic stations yet but will be looking to replace at 3mm.

Have Kumho Ecsta KU31 all round one mine, Personally love them grip very well

Front pads changed to EBC red and some cheap grooved discs on ebay, loads better than standard pads and no brake fade on a recent track event :)

Why do you say they are crap?

I've always had good experience from the greenstuff (OEM upgrade) ones, on Mini's, Focus's, Mk IV Golf, Mondeo, etc.. Very good braking performance, and very little brake dust ( ).

Not tried blackstuff (OEM) or the Yellow/red stuff (Fast road/Track) so could not comment on them, but Greenstuffs get my recommendation (if you can warrant their price!)

They are prone to falling apart, breaking of the backplate and uneven braking pressure. It's not just me who doesn't like them, on other forums there are many people who don't like them and have you heard of racecar people using said pads. If you want a useful upgrade in brakes then 312 front brakes are the best possible choice. All parts can be OE so no quality issues.

Ah fair enough - never heard of this issue with EBC's before.. So prob not worth the £100 quid then :giggle:

£100!!!!!! Pagids are half that at ECP. Totally adequate for road going cars.

I managed to get 20,000 miles out of Uniroyal RainSport 2's on the front of Fabia vRS - currently on the second set they were so good. I agree with the others, they are excellent in the wet and very good in the dry but I was not too impressed on snow but it was about -10C when I was out.

I would recommend them but I haven't been able to source a pair of 205 45 16's for the last 6 weeks. No stock in the UK.

Just checked Camskill - they want £64.70 for Rainsports 205 45 16V - that's some mark-up for mytyres!!

MyTyres seem to alter their prices a lot based on demand (more than others), and if they've got something others haven't. Pretty mercenary of them, and puts me right off!

Agreed - I'd noticed that as well - greedy bar stewards!

Thanks for all the advice people

Ive ordered 4 uniroyal rs2's w rating for £77 a tyre will be on the car next week.

As for the brakes ive been to Euro car parts and got pagid discs and pads for the front, pagid discs and eicher pads for the rear ( they have ran out of pagid pads for the rear through out the country!)

Unsure of the Eicher pads but at least there on the rears and wont get as much use as the fronts.

Ive been after some springs and the Guy at Euro car parts can get me some apex 30mm for £85, Is anyone using these?

Thanks

You could order from there, but they don't have any stock. They haven't had any since at last Novemberish time, that's probably why they are a low price. Having said that, just compare the price of T1-Rs on both websites.

Where did you buy them from?

Got them from a place called Mr Tyre near me, 5 days wait for w rating and 12 weeks for v :o

I just had 2 toyo T1-Rs fitted today, £158 all in at Darlington TAC. Still running 2 nasty budgets on the other axle, they're literally brand new though and I'm reluctant to swap them just yet.

On my Mk4 Golf I used Toyo CF1s all round and was very impressed with them and would definately recommend.

I've been though 3 sets of Kuhmos in all across my Ibiza and the Fabia - mainly cos they were cheap.

However i suffered REALLY badly with sawtooth wear on the rears on both vehicles.

They also didn't last that long which i didn;t expect as the gip isn't that strong

Have Pirelli P Zero Nero's all round now and they seem grippy and show hardly any wear after many many miles

Il second that one about the Pirelli's mate. Had four put on standard rims when i got the car and iv done about 18k since and the pirelli's are still good. This is partly down to having a buldge in one tyre going down a pot hole so i change both at the same time and move the pirellis to the front and put nexens on the back. Both pairs are doing really well and when the pirelli's are warm they work really well, lasting well for me so far :) they have gone up drastically in price though. i paid £280 for 4 and got a quote for a mates car yesturday from teh same place for 205/40/17 and they wanted £95 a tyre lol

Hope this helps, Elliott

I run EBC Greenstuff pads and EBC Drilled and grooved discs all round and IMHO they are rubbish. The discs may be ok, and do seem to be lasting well but the pads are shockingly bad. I have to cook them to get them working and even then they are not impressive.

My local tyre place is a Uniroyal stockist - going to Liverpool next week and will be looking to replace my fronts when I get back - if they haven't got Rainsports I'll probably just go with these as a stop-gap: -

205/45YR16 - HANKOOK K110

Only £64 including fitting.

I had these tyres fitted as a stop gap last week (was MOT time) on the front axle at £59 each, bargain!

Really impressed so far! Grip much better than the bridgestones that were on there before.

Money no object wise its between conti procontact 2s & toyo tr-1s for me.

lol why get stop gap tyres? Just get some decent ones to start with :)

Conti's wear fairly quick, Bridgestone are nice, Pirelli were good on my Ibiza (same size) and Michelin but bit more money.
