Buckled Wheel :(

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Posted a thread a few days ago regarding my car feeling like the alignment was out. Had it back at the dealers today and it turns out I have a buckled front passenger wheel :'(

To order a new one from Skoda is going to be £192 + VAT and then the charges to remove and refit the tyre off the old one. Personally I think this is daylight robbery so I am now just thinking to get some different wheels as its not that much more expensive to replace all four!!

Just to be clear on the fitment for the vRS: 5x112 and an offset of 45?

Was thinking of these, obviously with some Skoda centre caps - opinions welcome: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-AUDI-A5-ALLOY-WHEELS-ONLY-SKODA-OCTAVIA-/130468496994?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item1e60874662

Any advice etc would be a great help. Cheers.

i bought a set of different wheels from the same supplier.

I don't think I'll be buying them from that supplier as my local tyre place can supply them and I'm just going to get them to do all the work - swapping tyres etc. I think they will really suit the Octy :)

Could probably make a fair bit back selling your remaining 3 as spares too.

Pics with new wheels on please :)

Are these genuine Audi, or aftermarket copies?

I'm not in a position to comment on these specific wheels, but just a cautionary note - i've had "cheap" wheels in the past and found them to be a complete waste of money. If you've bucked your OE skoda wheels then you're even more likely to bend the crap out of a set of cheap aftermarket rims. The wheels I bought were of a much lower quality vs. the OE kit, so make sure you're happy with the quality before you part with your dosh.

My approach in your position would be to just scan ebay for a single used OE wheel in good condition - you'd probably be looking at circa 50 quid or thereabouts.

I would be put off buying a used car if it didn't have the correct OE wheels (i always assume the worst), so bear this in mind when you come to sell. You'll also need to tell your insurer if you change your wheels to a set of aftermarket jobbies.

Sorry to be negative.

Replica wheels, as well as being cheaper are often much heavier as well. The OEM 17" pegasus alloy is £143 inc. VAT as an accesory and I wouldnt think the 18" is much more. The 18" alloys on my superb are £163 inc. VAT for example.
