service light on already......

Featured Replies

My service light and orange engine warning light has just come on, bit confused as to why, because the car was only serviced at the end of March last year, when the car was on 58300. i purchased the car a couple of months later during June and it had only done 300 miles since the service, mileage is now 69300

My questions are why has the light come on so early??? I was under the understanding under variable servicing that it is up to 20k or 2years depending on the way it is driven. i drive pretty normal, with 80% of my driving on a roads and dual carriageway.

It is displaying 500 miles and 447 hrs ? How urgent does it need to be serviced? If it wasn’t for the light coming on, i would not be even thinking about a service until March at the earliest.......

That's why it's called variable servicing.

Whilst 11,300 miles or 10 months is at the lower end of the variable scale there are many different elements that contribute to when the car decides it needs a service.

Low engine temperatures, cold starts, inefficient driving style, high revs etc.

Can you be sure the car was serviced just before you bought it?

The orange light does not come on when the car is requesting a service, I suspect the problem has nothing to do with needing a service. Sounds to me like your oil level maybe low and simply needs toping up.

When due a service, the LCD/Maxidot will show "Service 1000 miles" for example. when starting the engine and goes away after a few seconds.

yeah pretty certain, as it has skoda stamps in the book.

it's not driven hard, spends most of its time at 60-70mph. just over 11k and 10 months for a diesel, is not really good enough. had a 2 year old vectra on 2yr/20k varible service and i had it serviced at 18k and 12 month, had no service lights come on before it was serviced

Do you know / can you describe this additional orange light?

orange light is for ' control system for exhaust' did have glow plug light come on a couple of weeks ago........

I had this recently. The sensor for the oil in the sump 'sticks' at 10k servicing intervals whether it needs it or not. Get it reset, and if it comes back in 100 miles it needs servicing, if it doesn't, it will let you know when it is ready.

would a vcds scan, detect the problem ? would the orange light Illuminate, if there was ANY fault and that the service light was also a symptom and that it does require a service ??

really dont know what to do on this one, car seems to be driving ok....

On the other hand, my new petrol vRS has 13,000 miles on the clock, and the computer recons theres another 412 days or 6,200 miles until it needs to be services. I almost don't want it to be that far away. :|

the orange engine light has now gone out..........but service display is still there when you first start up...its all very strange...

We had some issues with our Scout earlier in its ownership whereby it was reporting needing a service which seemed much too quick, even on variable. It WAS serviced twice in pretty quick succession, which made us stick to our guns and query this with Skoda and the dealer before they finally conceded and took the car in for tests. They performed some resets and then asked us to monitor the service interval mileage count for a while, in which time it was dropping sometimes at >200 miles a day. It ended up eating a 10000 mile count in 2000 real miles. They took it back in and changed something and we haven't had an issue since. They even through in the next service free as the previous one obviously wasn't required.

Just my 2p worth. Good luck.
