Which dealer accessory to get?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm after some opinions on which dealer accessory would be most beneficial to my new VRs that's on order :)

My new Octavia TSi DSG VRs estate is on order at the mo, didn't think i'd be able to afford the rear parking sensors which i thought would be useful, so left them off. As it happens, i found that i then could afford to have them fitted, spoke to the dealer to get them added to the order to be told that i had a confirmed build week 7, so the order couldn't be changed!! :'(

Was given the option of having the dealer fitted parking sensors done for £299, colour-coded, but they don't integrate with the radio display, just give the audio warning. Are they worth having? I'm a bit reluctant as they're same price as the factory fit but don't do as much!! I've also managed without them on my VRs hatch & the estate seems to have better rear visibility.

I then thought about using the money for either the variable boot floor or the lowering kit. Are either worth having or is there anything else worthwhile instead?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Cheers

Rear parking sensor are a good addition even if it is the simple audio ones. I have those on my old L&K Octy I and whilst they are nicer on my new L&K and probably better (being optical) at picking things but it is such an important thing to have to help prevent denting the back end and running over idiots who are not paying attention in car parks.

Rear Parking sensors are hig up on my list.

Raised boot floor, nice as standrad not sure I would pay extra for. Lowering kit would affect your insurance I would have thought so consider the total cost. Depends where you live but in the dark westcountry xenons are great, not so sure the adaptive ones make muh difference but are cool when you switch them on when the do the little range of movement check.

A much overlooked accessory which I have and find extremely useful is

Large Boot Storage Bag Part Number: DMA600001

Suitable For: Octavia Hatch and Estate 2006 > Product Details: A boot storage box designed to fit on the left hand side of the boot in the space where the CD changer may be fitted. Not suitable for vehicles with a cd autochanger. RRP: £30.00

Parking sensors are crazy money @ £299!! I fitted some for £16 & they are great....see here.

Xenons are also available aftermarket-you won't be able to add them to your order now anyway. Another option would be to use the money to get a good remap, e.g. from Ben @ Shark (Shark_90) :)

The lowering kit is the same product as the Eibach Pro-kit & is supposedly discontinued by Skoda? I doubt it will make much difference to your premium, and makes the car look much better IMO.

Other options worth having would be the vRS floormats and a spare wheel!

Thanks for the input

I thought the price was a little over the top!! I've seen the Dolphin ones & even though i wouldn't be brave enough to drill holes in a brand new car ,they fit them for £150, which includes the LED display.

I'm sorely tempted buy the lowering kit, my local dealer said they could supply & fit for £350. Need to convince SWMBO first though!! :S

The remap maty well come later, once i've saved enough penniesfor it (& another serious bit of convincing :giggle: )

I really like my rear parking sensors on my Octy, I hardly ever look at the graphic on the screen and soon I won't have it when I replace the stock radio with an after-market unit. I would definitely go for the dealer fitted option I think they are worth it.

I've got parking sensors on my L&K and I wouldn't be without them AND I've got them on the front as well. Some say that having them on the front is a waste of time and money, but I don't think so - saved my front end from no end of scratches and scuffs especially in tight parking areas.

I had front & rear parking factory fit on my Octy, given i had just spent 2 years living with a Fiat 500, & it being such a small car & sooo easy to park, this was well worth it, specially for parking as my road has cars parked both sides & there is just enough room to get up the road between them.

Even if you just go for rears that make the beep, the display is not really a 'must have'
