Rear Washer Jet....No Solution?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My car has been very very very good to me in these horrible winter days, but the only thing that has gone abit weird is the rear wiper system. The wiper works no problem at all but when i want to clean it i can hear the whine of the pump, but no solution. It doesnt look blocked any thoughts people??

Thanks

Sounds like a pipe connector has popped off.

Operate the rear wash wipe for a couple of seconds, then look under the car to see where the liquid is falling, either from the blukhead or the pasenger side rear door areas.

If the bulkhead, it's tricky to do but it's behind the air filter housing, if the rear door area, you have to remove the inside floor trim, when found you just push both ends together.

DB.

Could have popped off inside the tailgate too. Look for water running out of the drain holes in the bottom of the tailgate too.

On a related topic does anyone else find the spray for the rear washer is pretty poor? I find it only gets about half the way up the window.

Have you checked all your washer pipe connections? The one behind the plastic trim at the rear seat passenger side will sometimes come apart just enough that the fluid still gets through but at much reduced pressure, hence it won't reach the top. (as an aside I also use VAG screenwash)

Hi just registered 2 mins ago, i have bought a vrs last month and the rear washer is not working, having traded up from a pd tdi elegance this was the same on that, i did manage to remove the tailgate case and notiged the screenwash was bubbling by the jets and leaking out from the actual motor and into the casing, does this mean the jets are blocked? if so is this an easy fix?

I'm not sure if the jets are blocked or if some fluid has frozen in the mechanism during the cold weather, expanded and split it somehow. I actually had a very similar leaking problem a few years back due to a cold snap, when the weather thawed it leaked onto the door latch mechanism of the boot and sent it and the alarm haywire, it cost me £200 to get it fixed.

I'm not saying this is your exact issue but I'd certainly get a professional opinion, as I've mentioned above I only use VAG screenwash now, as neat it will protect down to -70DegC, so no more split pipes.

Edit: oh and welcome aboard! :)

Thanks, i think this is the same, as the first time i looked into it in detail the solution was actually dripping out through the boot latch as you described, its not the end of the world to not have it working, but may get it checked out.

Does anyone know which tyres are the best to get next time i get some mine currently have non standard alloys poss rs4 replicas and 225 45 zr 94y toyos?

The tyres for an Octy? If so you're probably best posting in the Octy sub-forum, this is the Fabia sub-forum and while you're quite welcome here you'll no doubt get more relevant responses in there.

For what its worth I'd be looking at Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetrics, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and Uniroyal Rainsport 2/Rain Experts.

No worries, good luck! :)

Thanks, my vRS has exactly the same problem - I can hear the pump whining but nothing comes out. I'll check the positions mentioned for a disconnected connector.

have you tried adjusting the nozzle with a pin so it goes further up the screen

Can you do that? I tried with a screwdriver but nothing happened.
