1.2 tsi engine

Featured Replies

Hi all, I was just wondering what is this engine like? Does it struggle in such a big car? Also what about any modifications to the engine?

Thanks

Jamie

In what car?

In an octavia/leon/golf. Sorry forgot to say.

The Yeti guys seem very happy with it, and it goes very well in a Fabia

Has anyone done any tuning to these engines yet?

The 1.2TSI is great in our Yeti, I was dead set against it but a test drive convinced me otherwise, I would highly recommend testing one (if you can find one!) before dismissing it as I initially did.

It holds its own on the motorway with no real problems and the 6 speed box is well suited. I drove it on a 250 mile round trip and never felt the engine was inadequate.

Personally, I wouldn't consider remapping our 1.2, It's already quite a highly strung little thing and wouldn't risk turning up the wick.

It wouldn't surprise me if they release a slightly higher powered version with a slightly bigger turbo in the near future, maybe 115PS?

My 1.2TSI Fabia doesn't struggle at all, in town or on the motorway.

Also what sort of mpg people are getting?

I have seen a kit advertised that would take the engine to 170bhp :o I'm pretty sure that they have plenty of reliability margin built in as standard though, and the turbo is really not very big.

On a trip I will get 47 - 50mpg when cruising at 70mph in the Fabia, a short commute gets me 38 - 42mpg and if you are in town for a bit, 35mpg on average. It depends how you drive it though. My lowest is 25mpg

10..9..8..7..6. . . . . waiting for the first reports of high oil consumption and burned-out turbos.

Nick

Thus far mine hasn't used any oil at all.
