Octavia VRS FMIC

Featured Replies

I really want/need a FMIC for my VRS. However there is no way i am spening £700+ on a Forge/ pro alloy item.

I know people will say you get what you pay for etc. But i just cannot believe how expensive these are.

So if anybody has anything else, what it it?

The other option is wait for a second hand forge/ pro alloy intercooler to pop up, but im guessing this dosent happen very often?

Thanks

Ryan

I got an ebay item think it was about £250 and it works a treat, i noticed a change especially in the summer months

Am sure the forge is better but its also a lot more money

How easy was it to fit? and how long did it take?

Was it a straight fit or did it need modifying?

Thanks for the quick reply!

After searching and reading a few threads, ive seen people saying they can get the forge for £450-£500 direct from forge?

How are you doing this?lol. The price on their website is £715 (i think)

Is it just a case of phoning them and negotiating or have you guys got some inside contact?

I've got a Toyo sports one on mine think its an eBay special, the previous owner fitted it so dunno how hard it was to fit. Works ok no problems from it

yup same here takes about 4 hours to fit including removing all the pipe work and original intercooler actually not overly hard

I got mine thru the site, just PM them if they are still site sponsors?

I got mine for 6. very happy with it but it will add a fair bit of lag to the std K03s setup. If I was you Id stick with the SMIC, take it off and clean it out will help no end.

The plan is to go stage 2 though, and thats why i wanted to go for a front mount.

I'd be interested in an upgraded SMIC, there was someone on here that designed one and was going to sell them but nothing ever came of it. :S

I'm going to be making my own shortly ;)

I paid the extra and got the pro alloy one. It fitted straight on without any problems, no cutting, shutting or messing around. It also does a very good job keeping the air cool, as you would expect.

Can you remember which one you bought? there are about 3 or 4 that look very similar.

all i can say is do some logs on those ebay front mounts and im pretty sure they will be outformed by the standard oem sidemount as there rubarb :giggle:

Well why has no one put one of these eBay inters to the test yet?

Id like to know and I'd say im not the only one

Yea I'd like to know aswell.

I just cannot justify spending 700-800 on one

People have said in other threads they have got the forge one a lot cheeper, I donk know how though.

I fitted an ebay fmic to mine and it was prety terrible. I couldnt get the clamps to tighten enough so the pipes just kept flying off in really awkward places to reach. 1st time it did it i nearly had a heart attack, it sounded like a kettle boiling and then an almighty pop and a hissing sound :S If i had been going up a slip road i imagine a really large crash could have been on the cards  i wouldnt trust them. possibly ok on a standard mapped car but im on a stage 2 running about 21psi. As for weather or not it works, i would say yes, after driving it for a couple of miles, the turbo side pipe work was roasting hot, but the pipe going to the throttle body was stone cold

How do you clean the original cooler?

Were the ends of the pipes swaged? And did you use mikalor clamps?

Strange you find the Forge FMIC kit adds turbo lag with a K03s ???? my pro alloy FMIC with a K03s adds no noticeable (to me) turbo lag at all.

Granted the Forge is double pass and the pro alloy single, but I'd have thought the additional volume that both system add to the turbo system would be similar.

The pro alloy FMIC inc all additional pipes etc has an internal volume of 10 litres, but when you deduct 2.7 litres which is the volume of the removed OEM SMIC and rubber link pipe to the pan cake pipe your left with a total increase in the overall boost system volume over std of 7.3 litres.

Using the following calc..........Turbo lag = Vic/((AF start = AF final)/2).

Additional turbo lag over std with the pro alloy kit works out @ 0.135 seconds.

Bill.

How do you clean the original cooler?

??? Someone ??? Anyone???
