Bit of a strange one which i dont think has been asked

As the economy is going tits up and taking the fuel price with it it got me thinking how many more miles a tank can you get with a reman

I get around 400miles out of my tank..

Weekdays 10miles to and from work hitting 50mph all way.. so tend not to chuck the fuel out the window that much

What have people managed after remaps? and who was it with (shark, Revo (new map) )

Very interested to see the results for the new 2.0tsi engine, the thought of a loss of fuel economy is the only thing stopping me getting a remap. (65 mile daily commute)

I know my experience doesnt really apply here, as mines a diesel and heavy, but..

My daily commute is 43 miles each way, over the pennines so there is no nice motorway cruising, its all climbs and gear changes. Since getting the Revo remap I am averaging 2mpg better, with on average 430 miles to a tank.

On a slightly more relevant (I guess) point, I also had a revo remap on my Audi S3 (petrol), and experienced similar improvements in economy. despite the urge to utilise the pedal on the right a little more often ;)

Had my PD140 remapped just before Christmas.

Fuel economy suffered at first, but it was -5 to -10 all the time!

Now the temperatures are back to a more normal seasonal temp my mpg is roughly the same, maybe very slightly better.

On a 520 mile round trip I achieved 51.1mpg (measured using Fuelly), the trip computer said roughly about the same. I was driving steadily at 65-75 with the odd burst. I was just down to 1/4 of a tank, I would have had approx 600-620 out of the tank.

This morning on my daily commute the trip computer said over 61mpg.

Jury is still out as I haven't done enough miles in normal temperatures, but it is looking like a slight improvement, not the 10% I was expecting from the 'in the pub' accounts of diesel remaps.

Can't comment on the petrol engines though.

57 plate tfsi With Revo stage 2 and forge twincooler, full miltek. forge induction, the best i can get is around 34 ish t gallon, But push it hard and i'm nearly into middle teen figures.

Shark stage 1 - average about 33 to 35mpg.

So for petrol sake.. would a remap be recommended?

Or just stick with oem map? ..

Sites do claim better mpg... but really need more proof before i go a head

Its a tough one...my MPG went down for a good 6 months after getting the S3 remapped, but this was because it was an intoxicating increase in power too, but since getting used to it and the novelty wearing off, it definately increased from pre-remap. I went from 31mpg on a motorway run to 36, and town driving from 29 to 32.

1.8TSi remapped by Shark and no mpg difference, but as stated by others it does make you drive a little faster/harsher, but if driving normally no difference.

Don't remap the petrol for the mpg increase. It will be negligible at best and probably lower due to you utilising the extra power. You would never recoup the outlay of the remap in the small amount of fuel you might save. Get a remap if you want a massively improved car though.

I've also noticed a slight increase in mpg since changing from 18" to 16" wheels with winter tyres.

and you will have to pay the increase in insurance every year.

If the ONLY reason you're going for a remap is for fuel consumption improvement, then a maps can be written with this in mind. Worth giving Shark a shout for some more information.

It's true that MPG improvements can be realised on a more standard remap, but usually only over steady motorway journeys, and the like. But as already said, it'll take you an awfully long time to get a return from the money you've paid out! It's worth it in many other ways though :)

Indeed. Which is why I wouldn't recommend a normal remap, if you primary objective is to make the car more efficient :yes:

40 mpg according to the car. Is your 30 mpg via the car or working it out yourself? Is there a big difference between the two?

Personally I tihnk you are best to pump your tyres up to the max allowed on the filler gap, use your cruise when possible and drive gently accept when you want to blow the cobwebs out.

We are getting 43 mpg on the TSI VRS and more like 46 mpg out the 1.8 TSI DSG but over 50 mpg is possible without trying too hard. Saying that the 1.9D-130 hp does upper 50s without trying.

You cannot get eco tyres for the VRS espeically the 18 inch rims, not sure they are even available for 17 inch ones yet.

As i understand it some remap places advertise "performance" remaps and "economy" remaps , i think your best idea is to talk to Ben at Shark or phone Revo and ask about economy remaps, you got nothing to lose but the price of a couple of phonecalls.

I have done about 18000 miles on my Remap and average about 35mpg on my 85 mile mixed driving commute using 95 RON. Slightly up on the pre remap consumption.

Drive it very hard and it drops to mid 20's.

Insurance is not more expensive.

Please dont get me worng.. the extra power would be a welcome reason for the remap.. 200bhp doesnt seem that much to me at mo lol

Was as we are all aware on the bhp side of things its somthing id like to know about if i did get it done

So overall If i remap (cost of insurance and map aside) if i drive normally I should see an extra 40miles form a tank? so roughly 440 per brim fill?

But surely a custom map would not make the differnace for like 3years worth of fuel?

Not sure what your point is there. Are you wondering whether you can recoup the cost of the remap over the course of 3yrs worth of fuel purchase, based on an extra 40 miles per tank?

My maths may be complete *******s, but here goes:

If you do 12,000 miles a year at say 31mpg, fuel up costs 65 quid for a tank say, and you get 320 miles out of a tank full... if you manage to get the car up to say, 33mpg average then you'd save 148 quid over a full year. Based on that if a map costs you say, 400 quid it'll take you more than two and a half years before you'd broken even.. let alone generated any savings.

My experience - yes the new map can be very fuel efficient if you're driving miss daisy, BUT if you've gone to the trouble of buying a Vrs (ie you like "fast") and you've gone to the trouble of researching buying and applying a new map they'll you'll probably take every opportunity to drive like your trousers are on fire. In which case you'll be using MORE fuel than before during these times (power does not come without a cost) so overall you'll end up pretty much where you started in terms of mpg.

If you REALLY want to save fuel, then keep the standard map and take the bus/ bike / work from home etc. or sell the vrs and buy an Audi A2 1.4 tdi.

Fair enough.

I've seen mid-forties mpg on mine after the shark stage 1, but this is rare. Overall my mpg is about the same now as it was before, but i've got a faster car.
