DPF Problems. Please help.

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia VRS diesel which up until recently has been working fine.

I was driving the other day and the exhaust management warning light came on. Following this the DPF warning light cam on and so I started to drive at around 2000 rpm in 4th like the manual says. Before the regen had finished the glow plug warning light came on and started flashing. The car then went in to limp home mode (ie will not rev above 3000 rpm and feels like 40 bhp rather than 170!)

I have plugged in the VCDS, cleared the exhaust management warning light, but cannot get rid of the glow plug or DPF warning lights. The car is still in limp home mode. Also the code which was left on the VCDS was error code 08194 (unknown).

I have seen others say rev the nuts off it to heat up the exhaust, but it will only rev to 3000?

Before I go to a dealership (closely followed by a visit to the bank manager!), has anyone else ever had this problem? More importantly does anyone know how to fix?

In anticipation............... aid

This might help http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/181106-dpf-problem/

Limp home mode = visit to the dealer I'm afraid.

The DPF warning light is supposed to come on well before the filter clogs completely to give you sufficient time to allow the car to regen by itself.

Your dealer may be able to force the DPF to regen but if this fails it could get expensive...

As above, that link has plenty of good advice.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers Silver.

The dealership awaits. Hopefully the warranty may cover something, as it does not cover the diagnostics or regen!! What sort of warranty is that.

The DPF might not have regenerated due to a fault, pressure sensors and temp sensors are fairly common and will brang all the lights on, as will a faulty air mass meter so there is plenty to check out.

Your problem sounds a lot like mine last year - DPF light came on, then all warnings before I could force a regen. After a week at the (now former) dealer, a 100% clogged DPF was diagnosed, and cleared under warranty as I'd had the car fewer than 6 weeks (and called for their advice when the warning first came on).

I'm assuming they flashed the ECU at the same time - the DPF light has come on 2 or 3 times since, but easily cleared in under 10 mins each time.

you can force a regen via vagcom too. I have heard about DPF filters being removed and washed out with a power washer to remove the ash and refitted

Yes you can force a regeneration but if a sensor is faulty its not going to work and could make the situation worse.

i had this problem and after today I plugged it into my mates diag and it came up with 08194 unknown.

the dpf was on and stayed on for a stupid hour before the coil light started flashing... back to the garage about this problem... AGAIN!!!

but i'm glad someone else has experienced the same problem...

if i bypass the dpf and blank the egr valve and map it out, will this stop this? :)

Yes many people remove the DPFs on these and have them mapped to suit. Mapping out the EGR is not easy but we have managed it recently.

I presume the process for DPF delete and remap is the same on the PD 140? as I may be on the verge of a purchase!!

Had this problem recently and have had both the exhaust temp and pressue sensors replaced, seems to have cured it .

It might be a different ECU depending on what you buy, but we've got it covered ;)

My 2010 140 hp pd 16 valve does not have a DPF , thankfully.

Thats good then, but we are looking at Golt GT's and some of the 140 PD's do have DPFs..... :dull:

isnt the one with the DPF the 2.0 8v 140 Derv? just be careful with that, I believe that is the case on the Octavia, so is likely to be on the Golf too...

Not as far as I'm aware, the ones I have looked at have been 16v PD's. Hopefully it will be academic as - fingers crossed - we are going to view a non DPF version next week.
