sidelights always on

Featured Replies

On my Fabia 1.6TDI SE estate (delivered November 2010) the sidelights are always on when the ignition is on. Looked in the manual to see if I have a choice about this and it just says "don't drive with just sidelights on, it's dangerous!"

The car doesn't have daylight running lights, nor the associated switch by the fuses (as shown in manual).

(Sorry if this has been covered before but given up searching)

From this year it is compulsory to have DRLs. I f the car doesn't have dedicated DRLs the sidelights are used instead.

Do you hace the fog lights,if not thats why they are in the side lights its now compulsory to have drl's , but they must be able to switch on and off allthough its eu law for them to be fitted, its up to the individual if they want them on it is not legally required for them to me on,so must be switch some were, maybe in the same position as all the cars with fogs underneath the dash fusebox area?

I believe sidelights as DRLs are activated via VCDS. I believe the law is that they are to be supplied working on new cars from 2011 so you will be able to get them deactivated but it will mean a trip to the dealer unless you have access to vcds. I think the switch behind the fuse panel is only present on Fabias with dedicated DRLs.

Thanks for replies.

Seems like a pretty rubbish stop gap solution then in absence of proper LEDs. Prob best to get them turned off so I can make a positive decision to turn my headlights on in poor visibility.

Noticed after collecting the wife's Fabia Elegance that not only were the dedicated DRL on in the lower light units but also the front and rear side lights. DRL would go out as expected when you turned the lights on though. Popped back to the dealers who apparently unchecked an option in the lighting menu that shouldn't have been selected; been fine since.
