As per title. Is it ideal to replace these when fitting lowering springs?

yeah just had mine lowered last week on eibachs and had the seat cupra console bushes fitted drives much nicer now and feels more planted :)

Not absolutely necessary but I guess they will need renewing sometime in the future so you might as well do them whilst the suspension is in bits.

That's exactly what I'm going to go for. Any pics? Also how much did you pay for supply and fitting?

Cheers

If your in Banbury give Unit18 a bell, they can do anything from console bushes to a complete bush overhaul using poly bushes to really tighten things up.

Just checked their section price list. Ibiza Cupra bushes are £135 plus vat fitted Inc wheel alignment.

i can get a pic for you in the near future. as for the price i paid £420 for a full service, and for them to change the springs and bushes and do all the allignment stuff. sorry i cant break it down any more for you.

sorry forgot to include the parts prices i think i paid about £17 for the bushes from awsome gti and bout £140ish for the eibach prokit, i had them in my shed for ages hence why i cant remember the exact price, hope this helps though.

My Fabia failed it's MOT today because of the front suspension arm rear bushes, but the inspector said the front ones were OK.  The MOT inspector suggested that if I wanted to replace them with the bracketry in situ I use poly bushes, and gave me a number for Flo-Flex.

I had a pig of a job when I tried to replace the bushes on a wish-bone on a Volvo - I couldn't press the new ones in, and had to buy a new wishbone.

Flow-Flex poly bushes had poor reviews, but on this forum someone said Powerflex were good, and, even better, Awesome gti are only 10 miles from me and open tomorrow.

Given that I'll be changing a flexible rubber bush for a less flexible polyurethane bush, should I change the front ones anyway to try and keep the axis of rotation consistent.  It'd be an extra £45 and whatever extra time it takes?

If so then within 2 weeks of buying the car I will have spent nearly as much again on parts and consumables (Battery £43, reverse light switch £14, Fuses £2, Console bushes £60, wishbone bushes £42, wiper blades, new coolant reservoir, G13 coolant, engine oil flush, filter, oil.)

Wouldn't bother changing the front bushes, they hardly ever need changing. Poly rear bushes will cause more harshness compared to the rubber type, so bear that in mind.

But they have a lifetime guarantee.

I'd try Power Flex bushes- https://www.powerflex.co.uk/. Approx £65 PER CAR. Plenty of guides on here, but rear carrier is held on with bolt(s), so removal takes bush off wishbone. Bush is a plastic sleeved bush- it comes out with a mild tap and it's easy to refit bush carrier.

Hey,

Would you be able to point me in the direction of the how-to guides? Wouldn't mind doing the job myself to keep costs down,

I have an awful lot of knocking at the front and tracking is way out, so suspect ball joints at a minimum. Could be other items too though at 167k so looking into:

  • Console bushes
  • Front (of car) Lower Rear wishbone bushes
  • Lower Ball Joints

Are there any other common mounts/bushes that wear out and cause geo/noise issues?

Thanks!

Console bush and lower arm rear bush are one and the same thing on these cars. Likely to be in very bad condition at that mileage, if original.

That was a job and a half! However I do now have an MOT certificate.

The bit that made it most difficult was my own laziness.  The instructions from powerflex said to use soap to aid the fitting of the bush carrier, but there was none in the kitchen, so I used washing up liquid, and ended up having to use a sash clamp and a brass bar to push it in.  When I did the other side I went to the bathroom for the soap, and it popped in by hand
