Wing mirrors are very discoloured and brownish (Pic included)

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

washed the car today and noticed that my side mirrors have become very ugly and discoloured. Cant see how they can be fixed due to the damage being underneath the surface of the glass.....

Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to replace just the glass? Any links?? DIY??

I'm almost sure the Haynes manual shows how to remove these...

Sorry bout bumping this thread. Any idea if my car could fail an MOT because of this mirror?

Is it possible to replace the glass piece only?

Ta

why do people say wing mirrors, they are on the doors, not wings! (like older cars)

the glass can be popped off and if you want to replace them use golf mk4 blue tinted mirror glass.

just adds summot different to the car

same reason why people hoover their houses and do arts and crafts with sellotape :giggle: :p

Si.

I think it's caused by leaving the heated mirrors in the on position.

If not being used then they should be set at R or L. Leaving them in the

centre position means they are on "heat" all the time.

The glass can be popped out with the housing still in place

or the proper way is to remove the bottom trim (the black plastic underneath the casing) and then pop the painted mirror housing off.

A new glass isn't that expensive, or you can try a scrap yard. Millions of Golfs, Boras, Skodas. They all use the same mirror glass, so it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to replace :)

I doubt it would fail the mot but if it does then there just being arsy !
