Is the Superb and old mans car?

Featured Replies

Just come back from football and thought I would pose the question. First time my mate has seen my superb and first thing he said was it was an old mans car! Im nearly 35 and I usually have sporty looking cars but this time I just wanted comfort. Anyone else think its an old mans car?

He's jealous probably .....i'm 51 almost and i have the outlook of a 35 yr old....and i drive one....and nobody has said to me your too old for the car :giggle:

No way is it an old man's car. It is pure "stealth" for the thinking middle aged driver who does not need to prove anything.

I am 50 and I still love my cars to perform well, handle well and look good. The Superb does it all. I would not change it for anything else out there.

Forgot to ad he does drive a VW Passat!

Forgot to ad he does drive a VW Passat!

Which means he WAS jealous, could not think of a bona fide reason so made the assinine comment re being an old man's car. You should feel sorry for him, on 2 accounts. His car's inferiority and his own inferiority. And I read now VAG are going to make Skoda pull back on the quality and value for money of the Superb range as they are adversely affecting the sales of VW Passats.

Jealous- I know a number of Passat owners that have regretted their purchases after seeing the same equipment in the Superb :D :D :D :D

I am 40, I don't need power under me to compensate for others short comings. I want quality and value for money with my motors. The Superb delivers in bucket loads!!!

i was 26 when i ordered and took delivery of mine! :)

i love it - and care little what others think

. . . . Anyone else think its an old mans car?

Yes :giggle:

+ I'm seriously thinking of buying one, but I am now a Grumpy Old Man. Not quite pension age, but could book a SAGA holiday. Boy, do I wish I had one when I was dragging 3 small kids to French camp sites many years ago in smaller non-AC cars. I have enjoyed a couple of Brisk Volvos but am looking forward to space, comfort, reliability +enough mod-cons. I can get my kicks elsewhere.

ps - of course your mate's jealous

Andy Gray and Richard Keys have similar ill-informed views, albeit on a slightly different theme. I am an "old man" with a VRS Occy...........do I have to sell it now?

Yes :giggle:

You maybe grumpy old man but haven't maxed out on full blown maturity, go get one, and put some serious attitude about.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

As to wishing for something that has gone by, is showing signs of the full blown maturity age. LOL

You are as young as the woman you drive!

i'm 33 and am getting rid of my MKV Gti for a Superb Combi !! ... priorities is what I would call it ... need comfort, toys and somewhere to put the growing family and dogs !!! .. call that getting old, I call it growing up !

I am old ( registered Senile Citizen June 2010 ) :p I am grumpy, :( I also have a Superb Combi Elegance. This is my third Superb Elegance, first MkI second MkII hatch.

My next car will be a Skoda  I was a Motor Vehicle Technician for over 40 years, had many makes of vehicle, the Skoda's have been the best . Young men if you can afford a Superb go for it you will not regret it.

(very) early 30's here... i drive an octy, ordered a superb estate after seriously considering the bmw 3 series, audi a4, volvo v60, passat and mondeo.

anyway, define 'old man's car', almost all porsches I see tend to have a... 'senior citizen' behind the wheel :p

I think the Superb appeals to different ages for different reasons, that is part of its appeal, therefore it is not an old mans car.

Over 20 years ago when I was self employed I had a choice between a Toyota Carina 2.0petrol Executive or 2.2petrol Camry. I felt at that time compared to the Carina the Camry did feel like an old mans car and ended up buying the Carina- reckoned if I had been the age I now am I would have chosen the Camry- now I am not so sure.

Comparing Octavia to Superb the latter is more refined, quieter, more spacious and has a greater presence, non of which make it an "old mans car"emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I was chatting about this earlier with Andy Gray, and he said...

"What about old women? They drive too you know!"

and how old was this friend of your?

46 and happy with mine 30K miles don the clock

Hes the same age as me. Just thought Id add I dont think its an old mans car at all,

I am 28 and my Superb Elegance Combi replaced an Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Avant (2009).

My brother in law (just a couple of years older) tought that my old car looked like the batmobile, so he is happy now that I replaced it. :)

Im happy to!

whoops just re read you all ready have it

oh well may be I am old !

Andy

I'm 31 and absolutely love my Superb.

No one has even come close to an age based insult about the car I drive.

In fact, I have had nothing but positive comments about it. Everybody loves the Superb!

If anyone does take the ****, they are probably jealous.

I had my First Octavia Estate when I was 24 and I've been driving Skodas ever since.

the latter part so very true, and for surprisingly little extra in money terms. I had an L&K Octavia Estate for 7 years, best car I have ever had, until I changed to a Superb Elegance Estate, which as you say, has great presence, constantly admired so I hope it proves as reliable etc as the Octavia. And the news VAG will make Skoda produce cars less competitive against the Passat is worrying and will not bring about the result they want. Reducing the in-house competition will not make the Passat any better but will make the Skoda less appealing to the buying public at large who then may well buy outside the overall VAG Group. So VAG's move may well just reduce their Group's overall sales , reputation and profits.

Andy, you should have said his Audi stalks were the same as on the OLD model Superb!

Who says VAG are going to lower the Superbs quality?
