Is the Superb and old mans car?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if the Superb is an old mans car however I will be one by the time mine turns up

I'm 33(34) in 3 days time, had lots of BMW's golf gti's etc, I'm fed up of walking into the same old dealerships I.e. BMW and vag and getting a car that seems not really any different to the last car.

I'm genuinely excited about my superb estate turning up, before we got the dog I was considering the new BMW m1, 40k with nothing in it and a stupid tax rate and fuel cost. Performance wasn't massively better then the 123d I have for real world driving.

The skoda is a great all round car plus we are planning kids in the next year or two.

That you are one old person does not mean the Superb is primarily a car for the elderly, which it patently is not due to the messages throughout this thread. And as to your blowing the trumpet for the Passat V4 Fourmotion, I guarantee the urban mpg is horrendous, how does it compare with the Superb equivalent btw?

Haven't got the Superb yet - been waiting since September 29th! Mpg for the VW (V6 by the way) just over 31 for the entire life of the car (35,000 miles).

I wasn't an old man when I ordered my Superb... but I probably will be when it eventually arrives...!

Oh dear! My Tsi was a 75th birthday present.

Keep an eye out for the sale of a low(very) mileage 1.8 elegance DSG

Who cares, If I have to be an old fart to own one of these, than I'm happy to be an old fart :p

I was glad to read this (see message 42 above).

I moved through my 30's and into my 40's waiting. Ordered early JULY arriving taking delivery early MARCH= 7 months!

You're a bit young really :-) Anyway I can attest to the value for money this crate offers and frankly nothing comes near it for the price.

Fortunately I overcame brandwashing years ago !

Same with me and when I phoned Skoda to complain, they said has my Dealer not told me re the COMPENSATION to be paid, which they had not and which turned out to be £300 worth of accessories. They will offer M and S vouchers, which I declined and got the full worth in extra bits and pieces, the best being the LARGE Cooler box circa £85. Try the same? Tony.

Just come back from football and thought I would pose the question. First time my mate has seen my superb and first thing he said was it was an old mans car! Im nearly 35 and I usually have sporty looking cars but this time I just wanted comfort. Anyone else think its an old mans car?

Strange that comment seeing as it is going to be the old men who will best remember that Skoda was for many years the butt of many jokes so it is more likely to be a more younger man who has not heard the old jokes, instead has grown up with Skoda's rise to motoring glory as being the typical customer, or those like me with more intelligence and can spot a good bargain when they see one.

I'm 61 and have had 3 Passats before and now I'm on my third Superb, this one is an 140bhp TDI (2011 model) DSG Elegance and unless there is something else comming along to steal the Superbs crown, it will not be my last either.

I have been reading this thread keenly and I see that there is the suggestion that VAG are concerned about sales of Passats are beng lost to Superbs and that they may restrict access to their latest technology etc in a bid to redress that situation. Surely they are already are doing that, take the CO2 emmisssions for instance, aren't the Superbs already the highest of the VAG group for similar sector cars and as a company car driver, I have to pay a significant amount more in BIK tax.

Before I had Passats the company cars came from the Vauxhall or Ford stable and when I got my first Passat it was wonderful by comparrison but then along came the Superb with its longer wheelbase, more legroom etc and I switched over following an extended 48 hour test drive. The differance was startlingly, better ride comfort, quiter ride, more space for everyone in the car and you really got that "big car" experience driving it, the only problem area was the badge and its association with the jokes and the companies past history. So as an engineer, logic began to take over, it was broadly speaking a Passat with a longer wheelbase so it had a good pedigree already built in if you ignore the badge. It also came with a longer list of standard kit over the Passat, I also had a large family, large in as much as my 3 sons were 6' 4" like me so the extra legroom came in handy, so I decided to take the plunge and order one as my next company car and I still cannot get the huge grin of my face everytime I drive it, it has huge presence on the road too. The only thing that spoils it is the CO2 rating and its effect on the car tax that I pay but I fully expect that by the time it comes up for replacement they will be fitting cleaner engines anyway.

I drive a real car, not a badge.
