The steering wheel was really easy to fit (once you get the nack) so ill try do my best in explaining how to.

Heres some instructions I used to do it copied from another site as I couldnt find anything on briskoda.net.

Removal of OEM steering wheels

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

- T55 torx bit or 12 point bit (12 point can be obtained from VW, or from some auto parts stores)

- Torque wrench (one that will allow you to torque to low settings)

- small flathead screwdriver

- ratchet for torx bit

- extension for rachet and bit

- 10mm socket (to disconnect battery)

- radio security code (for earlier model year Mk4's)

REMOVAL:

- Make sure your wheels are straight and the steering wheel is appropriately aligned.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Insert key into ignition, and turn to the "on", but not "over" position (this will keep the wheel from locking).

- Turn the wheel 90 degrees to one side. You will feel/see a small hole in the back.

- Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the hole. Make sure the screwdriver is angled such that the handle is against the steering column, and the flathead is as high up within the hole as possible. Make sure to push the screwdriver in as far as you can.

- Pull up on the handle. What you are trying to do is push down on a small spring within the steering wheel that holds the airbag locking latch secured.

- You may have to try a couple times, but you will eventually see, hear, and feel the airbag catch release from the spring.

- Turn the wheel in the opposite direction 180 degrees until you can see/feel the second hole.

- Repeat the screwdriver procedure.

- The airbag should now be released from the steering wheel. However, it is still attached to the wiring harness. Make sure to unplug the harness from the airbag before you pull it out too far from the wheel.

- Place the airbag somewhere secure, with the padding side up.

- Disconnect the wiring harness from the steering column. If you look closely, you will see two indentations in the steering wheel, near the wiring harness, that will fit the harness connectors. Insert the connectors in the appropriate indentations just to get the wires out of your way (this is totally optional, but I thought I would add it).

- Using a T55 torx bit (or a 12 spline tool ... commonly called a triple square at some autoparts stores ... I can't remember the size, but Lisle makes a kit with four bits, 6, 8, 10, and 12mm), remove the bolt in the center of the steering column.

- Pull the wheel off the steering column.

Heres some pictures I took to show you the holes and what you will be dealing with inside as its more than likely nothing like you would imagine.

The holes your going to be poking the screwdriver. (or in my case a nail punch) you HAVE to push the screwdriver in as far as it will go. one to two inches.

This bit semi coloured in red is the springy pin thing your supposed to be mooving with the screw driver to release the air bag. The pink bit is where the screw driver comes in but the opposite side.

H1140003.jpg

Here you can see in red where the connections for the horn are. You will need to remove both of them for ease of access later. and the area in green is where you are to unplug the airbag from.

If you are using a R32 steering wheel to replace the original one you will need to remove and ****ch this piece shown here in blue. I know they may look the same but if you are using the skoda airbag it will not sit flush with the steering wheel unless this is done, the fixings for removing this part are shown in yellow.

Assembly is the reverse of this order except the airbag just clicks back in with a hard push. Hope this helps anybody who has to come across removal of the steering wheel.

Reverse lights for tailgators?

Reverse lights for tailgators?

This was my plan for the brake lights for tailgators. The only problem with wiring to the brake light switch is it turns the throttle off when its on. But running wires to the switch to the reverse lights doesnt seem too bad and remember i've got two paddles theres more possibilities.

Worlds biggest volume remote?! :rofl::rofl:

matt

Missile lauchers and passenger ejector seat.

+ For more aggressive map

- For reset

+ AND - for nos

fit dsg all together

Wonder if it'd be possible to hook into the cruise control?

The wheel looks to dogs to be fair.

Deffo Oil slick and Flux Capacitor for the paddles.

Looks good.

Couldn't you just run a live and us them as a switch for the rear brake lights?

I was thinking that. +1 for a good idea!

Possibly. Ill have to look into it all a little more.

Wheel looks great. Can I ask where you bought it from and how much?

Yeah! Ebay.COM- america, $400 - about£250. There was only 200 dsg mk4 R32's made and all in america so the likelyhood of you finding one is kinda small :( but on the other hand theres a few floating around with the same texture as mine without the paddles for around £150-£200 :)

Looks good mate

Also good to see a few more SE's being modified now, seems like you have alot done like me and by Ali @ unit 18 ;)

Is that a broken slat? Dude! come on! Can't have a fancy wheel and a broken slat! ;)

Nah it dont need a slat, Just poping back in from where I had them out carbon wrapping them. I decided against carbon so removed it all...

Furry Muff.

Looks nice. Seen them with Mk4 R32 wheels before, but not with paddles! Didn't even know they made them with those boxes, even over in the States.

Didn't think VW had DSG fully rolled out when the Mk4 R32 was released?
