Got stopped by the police today......

Featured Replies

It's an easy mistake to make on a Fabia 2 though imho, as Skoda fitted the DRL's to the fog light housing. You can't really blame the police for doing their job, I would welcome a bit more of it to be honest, and think Skoda should have been a bit more thoughtful about the mounting of the DRL's on Furby 2's

Most cars that get a tug for something small can lead to other things being found (no insurance/licence etc)

It makes a change for someone to be pulled for fogs, even by accident.

They are a right pain in the neck round this way, I wish the local nick would start doing this.

I have been pulled a few times (early starts at work, driving a little too progressively etc) but I have always been legit so it doesn't bother me.

Good to see a copper not just relying on ANPR to tell him what to do

Is it just me that doesn't see the point in Front fogs?

I'm with you on this one

In all my years of driving I can honestly say I might have had fogs on 5 times. If visibility is that bad every one should be driving accordingly with head lights on. Some may say that head lights reflect back off the fog. So if it does slow down. I can see the point of rear ones.

Just because you have your fogs on doesn't mean you can drive like an @rse.

I had them on a couple of cars including current one but not on the Bora - and i can safely say i have never used them other than to flash idiots with rear fogs on in no fog!

As for the fog reflecting back the highway code states that if visibility is reduced or it is dark then dipped beam must be used....so why can you turn them on with just sidelights?!

I don't understand why some cars only have one rear foglight - just because it's the minimum legal requirement doesn't mean that it's a good idea particularly when travelling abroad and the single fog is then on the wrong side.

Probably wasting time and have nothing better to do. I speak from experience and also because a few of my immediates are in the force.

I got pulled up for coming out of a layby a bit to "sharpish". PC Plod then held up the whole road trying to get a word over the noise of of Z4M.

IMHO police should be actually patrolling the streets instead of driving around asking drivers to turn their fogs off...

I even had coppers drive onto my drive and ask whether my car was registered in my name and the house which they were trespassing on was actually my house.

Wearing a beanie hat, Nike tracksuit pants hoodie probably does not help... :D

Why can't manufactuers fit the DRL into the headlight cluster instead of where the fogs are, just like the volvo's of old, would make more sense and people would just assume they are side lights on.

Davy

Flashed today twice ,did'nt even know thememoticon-0136-giggle.gif definate people think I am drivin with the fogs on emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Because it cheaper/easier to repair if it fails

Dont forget that the majority of drivers have no interest at all in motoring matters.

How will they know about DRL's?

I agree with the fog lights being pointles and I get wound up by people driving with them on. (It is more the rear ones that I get annoyed about though.)

It seems, that even if you switch off your DRL',s when you put on the main beam, the side lights are still located in the "Fog light" position, so we cant win.

So because of this I have left my DRL's on. I have only seen other more expensive cars DRL's on Mercs and Audis mainly, but I am spotting more now that I know what they are!

Thanks for all your replies and experiences with regarding fog lights and DRLs and the boys in blue. I very rarely use my rear fog light as the red light seem to penetrate fog much better than white anyhow. I only have to look at the bank of railway signals outside my office at work.

The front foglights that I had fitted on my new Fabia for £120 odd quid have proved a worthwhile investment as we have been having quite a bit of the pea soup recently.

With regards rear fogs, I believe in America cars arent fitted with them. The Hyundai Sonata ( :( :(:giggle: ) I had as a hire car a few years ago only had them on the front.

Heres my Fabia with DRLs on....

So how have the front fogs helped you? fog, no fog, dark i can see no difference with them on or off.

Good to see a policeman actually stopping someone who he thought had their front fog lights on,the amount of cars driving with them on nowadays is shocking,im sure people would soon turn them off if they got a £40 fine every time for it!! It makes me laugh when the person coming towards me with their front fogs on has the cheek to flash me when i put my front fogs on when they are driving towards me!

Is it just me that doesn't see the point in Front fogs?

I had fog lights on my previous car but never got to use them when it was fogging.

Do they make any difference when it' s foggy?

This is funny! Everybody saying I was stopped once in 1998..... or I've been stopped twice, such a p**s take, When I get my car back ill take a photo and post it here of my stop forms fines and tickets since two years and 3 months ago. I'd say at least 20. Taring all young drivers with the same brush comes to mind.

What do they stop you for and what do you get fined for though?

Usually routine check and they give me fines for driving dangerous (pulling away from lights a little too fast or indicating a little later than they would expect me to...) and things thats a matter of their oppinion not fact. The only fact is I was 17-18 and now 19 Drive a nice fast car with a private plate which means the obvious. Im a drug dealer or I stole it as we all know all young people that are going somewhere in life are drug dealers or thieves.

Surely they can't fine you for that? Wouldn't they have to prosecute you and give you points for dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention?

You wouldnt believe some of the **** they come out with, one time i pulled away on gravel and yes i lost a tiny bit of traction, the original reason the presence of the police being there was due to a number of youths near by which is intimidating. Next thing you know I drive past my house and two cars with 5 officers at my house. Intimidating much? They gave me a section 59 for abuse of the highway something or other, and if you get two in a year they take your vehicle. The 'Police' or fake police as they were pcso's (police comunity support officer) discribed it as a burnout. As is I would do a burnout if the 'police' are clearly there.

I also have a record for offencive weapons as somebody claimed I had shot a gun from my car, Next thing Volvo T5 and BMW X5 unmarked drag me from my car cuff me to railings and strip my car out finding ..... wait for it.... a BAT! may I add in the boot? locked me up, left my car somewhere and left the lights on draining the battery. 8 hours in a sell then released me at night and because I had money with me they didnt have to take me back so I walked from Gillingham to Strood with a £80 fine for public order offence. (disturbance of the public)

A section 59 is basically an ASBO:

Section 59: Vehicles used in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance

326. This section gives the police new powers to deal with the anti-social use of motor vehicles on public roads or off-road. It includes (under subsections (1) and (3)) powers to stop and to seize and to remove motor vehicles where they are being driven off-road contrary to section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 or on the public road or other public place without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other road users, contrary to section 3 of the 1988 Act (as substituted by section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1991). By virtue of subsection (8), these new police powers will not be exercisable until regulations under section 60 of this Act are in force.

If that is the case that you lost a bit of traction on gravel i would very much doubt that this would stand up in court....There is a junction by my work which no matter how hard i try i can't pull out of it without spinning the wheels. There must be grease of diesel on the junction.

Also you have a record for an offensive weapon for being reported for shooting a gun from your car...again where is the evidence? I doubt it somehow....

My thoughts are they rely on you paying the measely £80 rather than facing court charges and all the C**p that comes with it... Day off work...

The joys of being a YOUTH.

And the offencive weapon was the bat which they took in in a evidence bag along with almost the rest of my life.

A bat in a boot is not an offensive weapon and can't be shot out of a car so don't see how they could have charged you for anything...

I have had a sledgehammer in my boot for about a month as i keep forgetting to give it back to my mate....is that an offensive weapon? If it was on the back seat then maybe....
