Got stopped by the police today......

A bat in a boot is not an offensive weapon and can't be shot out of a car so don't see how they could have charged you for anything...

My exact thoughts to be honest but as there was no evidence of a ball yes it is an offencive weapon. I thought it had to be in reach but they know best, not me. A huge part of me thinks they have to make up for sending two unmarked armed responce vehicles out looking for me and had to charge me for something, anything they could get away with.

Sorry but i wouldn't put up with that on my record....in fact i would loose my job for it as i have to have a clean enhanced CRB check to be employed. I would complain to the PCC and take it to court.....that's if the bat was in there for playing ball games... ;)

27, from failing to give priority to excess speed but with no speeding ticket issued? Drove past police whilst conducting a section 59? vehicle presence in area? tasking to area RE noise? obstruction- parked across a drop curb whilst waiting to pick a friend up? stopped due to eratic driving? - oppinion harasment alarm and distress to member of public- the person who reported me having a gun? at scene of incident? ooh I found one where I turned where there was a no right turn. One point. DRIVING IN RESIDENTUAL AREA? wtf

Not being funny but you are either driving like a total loon everywhere or you are being victimised by the police.

If you are getting tickets for what you saying you are (picking up mate etc) then i wouldn't be paying any of them.

I got stopped once for speeding when i was 18-19 in a MK3 Golf with nice alloys air filter etc and that was my own fault. He let me off with a warning as he hadn't got any speed equipment. My area is notorious for chavs racing etc and the police are always on high alert for them so there is obviously something wrong if you have 27 tickets and i've had none (i am 28 now though ;) )

I think you being 28 is where your no longer at that point whre your a target, I very much believe that when the ANPR goes past my car it says something along the lines of he's worth a tug and flashes up offencive weapons and so on. Most of them tickets are not fines but just evidence of me being stopped. I keep them as a record incase I decide they are harasing me. One time I dropped a friend off and they was going the other direction and as I pulled away they turned straight around, once I got around the corner I booted it a little (out of sight) and got home (a small distance away) bearing in mine this was just past midnight and theyre knocking on my door to 'have a word' and let me know my tyres are low and so on... (not illegal) I said how comes your targeting me tonight. He said something along the lines of you looked like you might have stollen the car by the way you was out so late.!? WTF!

My Mother got stopped by the plod on Christmas Day for pulling away like a loon from a red light in our old Mk1 vRS :giggle:

She was told "Take it easy next time"

I was pulled over for the DDL's last Saturday in Newquay.

Conversation went "your driving with fogs on - its distracting to other motorist". " No officers, these are daylight driving lights". "Never heard of them - can I lean into your car?" - he fiddles with light switch, old fog pullout etc, walks to front of car, comes back.

I say -"I've heard there was an issue with these DDL's whats the official view?" he said, I would like the lamps covered with tape.

I went into my dealer today (Houghes in Aylesbury) - they hadn't heard of the problem and gave me the customer care no

They said there had been a directive that DDL's were mandatory for all new cars from 1st Jan, but that this had been put back - not sure til when.

I asked for a letter from Skoda saying that I was legal that I could produce if it happened again, or a recall to after-fit an off switch.

l later heard that there is a switch to deactivate(hold lever for 2 secs) but not sure which - will let you know when I here

Uncle Pete

The switch is in the fuse box under the steering wheel, just flick it off.

Hi Unkle pete, As Jammy dodger said, the switch is located in the fuse box, in case you cant open it, there is a long cover just in front of your knees while sitting in the car. its a bit tricky to open unles you do it right...

there is a small gap you can get a finger in, on the under side, at the right hand end. Pull this end out first and it should come out quite easily.

A Police volvo put its LED message sign on to tell me to turn my fogs off, while I was driving behind him, I didnt feel right flashing him to pull over and explain, so I switched the dipped beems on (DRL's then go into side light mode)they seemed happy with that and drove away.

Crikey, 27 tickets. I am 45 and as well as having / had modified cars, done plenty of track days, drive fairly quickly (to the prevailing road / weather / traffic conditions) and being a biker, I have never had points and only once had a copper get a bit irate over the number plate on my old speed triple. (being on one line, picking up a £30 fine and a producer.) I am doing around 30k a year now and do still get a move on when the mood takes me in the car, and always do on the bike.

Not being holier than thou, but either your cards have been marked, or, driving like a total loon :) One thing I learnt with my bikes, don't draw attention to myself, road legal plate, road legal can and stick to the limit's in towns and villages.

Sat in our New Meriva waiting for my wife at the BP station around the corner from home, which is a popular stop for the local force, as it has M&S sarnies, fuel and coffee, when a Police Astra pulled in. The two officers peered at my car, then wandered over. "Oh, no", thinks I, and opened the window. But they were just curious about the rear doors and how they worked (The new Meriva has backward opening "suicide" doors). We got to talking about DRL's and it really comes down to where on the car they're mounted. The Meriva's are in the top of the headlight, so obviously not foglights, but some are in the foglight position, so cause confusion.

As to being stopped, I'm such an old f@rt that I get ignored most of the time. I used to have a mate with one eye who wore an eyepatch when his socket was sore and he didn't want to wear his prosthesis. He worked as a club DJ, and could guarantee a pull if he was driving home from a gig in the small hours with his eyepatch on. Maybe they thought he was a pirate?

He only had to lift his patch and show the empty socket, and they'd retire in confusion. It wasn't a pretty sight.......

from the sounds of it your plates have been put in to the police system as a risk, ie drug offences, weapons etc.

a friend of mine who is a copper had done this to his partners ex's number plate so every time he is seen by a cop car he gets pulled over. so maybe you have upset a cop and this is the revenge from him/her.

might be worth you taking your car details (v5, tax, insurance, mot, driving license) to your local police station and question why you keep being pulled over for anything and everything. suggest that you feel that you are being victimised and if it continues you will be considering legal advice.

Whats funny is as I was reading this the police just rolled slowly past my house peering down my driveway :/ Could be worth a try

Turned mine off last night after reading this thread. Can't be bothered with the hassle or stress of explaining the DRL to the police. As they do look very like fogs in any case I can see their point.

Mine were switched off when i went to pick the vRS up and told dealer to switch them on. Ill see how it goes. However thanks to the forum and the manual its just a switch for on/off so should I get hassle/pi++++ed off with them I can switch them off.

If you switch them off how does the side lights work? Do they still use the drl bulbs or is there some activated in the main light?

If you switch them off, the side lights still work as normal, The switch just turns off the DRL's.

thing is as soon as your being smug, all it takes is for them to start looking around your vehicle and picking faults. Especially little things like un even tyre wear down past the wear markers could result in penalty points. im always dead polite. You never know when you might get pulled again

Truest words ever!

I once made the mistake of being smug - they 'found' something to pin on me!

According to the handbook top page 48 , just under note , the day light driving lights are also the side lights , they dim when you turn the light switch.

My side lights bulbs in the headlight never come on !

This is for the vRS

Hi Brin, the LED DRLs when you put the side lights on dim and become the side lights though?

Hello,

The police are a funny lot. On night I was once pulled over and told "these are fast cars sir" I said it depends how you drive them. I was then told that I was all over the road. I replied that I wasn't, particularly when there was a police car behind me. While this was going on the other policeman was doing the usually checks. These were all OK and suddenly I was told to drive carefully and they were off.

The funny thing was I had joined a scheme that gave the police the right to stop the car if it was being driven late at night there were stickers on the rear window and and windscreen so they could have stopped me without all the rubbish. At the time I was driving a black Alfa and I wonder if they were playing "snooker" when you pull over cars in colour order.

Not long after that I felt really ill while driving on the M1. I think it was a migraine and pulled up behind a police car on the hard shoulder. The policeman got into my car car and drove me to the service area. He then got into the following police car and drove off. In a short while I was fully recovered and fit to drive. The pity was I didn't take there names or numbers to write and thank them.

I think, as with all jobs, people can be really helpful or a pain.

Yes this is correct.

They still work as side lights when the DRL's are switched off.

I will try and take some photos of all the diffrent settings!

Hi ROS53Y,

Please dont take any disrespect from this but I suspect the police are targetting you a lot mainly because you drive a really rather cool car for your age, also that car has the appearance that its had alot done to it. Reading your signature and seeing the photo I can see the car is far from standard; in a nice way of course but the old bill blatantly just see it as a "young lad in a fast car".....put two and two together often wrongly and just assume your up to bother.

I'd put money on the fact if you drove a less obvious car (i.e a completely standard looking Fabia vRS) you'd have far less trouble from the Police. Sadly young people in quick cars, particularly modified cars do tend to get stereotyped. In a sense though you do have to see it somewhat from the Police's point of view. Alot of youngsters in such cars do drive like plebs, I see it all the time. They think they are great drivers but are moments away from killing themselves or someone else; its those people who have caused the problem for you and other young people who like having nice modified cars.

It's a real shame but I think the only way you'll ever get round it is by trading the Fabia for something else thats less eye catching, maybe a standard looking one but keep the mods on the inside.

The problem with the stereotyping is that sometimes it is true, with cars being more accessible these days to younger people, then accident rates in that group will climb, and chavved up corsa's with family size bean tins for exhausts do nothing to help the cause.

It was not much different however when I was younger, my first car was a Mk1 Escort 1100, me and a REME mate whipped out the motor and dropped a 1.6 in it and never did anything with the brakes, what fun :) Modding as well as cars themselves is a more accesible thing these days, and as mentioned by pipsyp, the powers that be are going to see young bloke in modded car, and not really care, or even understand that the mods may be well made, perhaps increase safety and that the driver may actually be competent
