windscreen bonding

Featured Replies

hello,

the wind noise in my car has suddenly got a lot worse and i suspect the windscreen's bonding has failed along the bottom edge of the passenger side. at speed is sounds like a small window is open.

has anyone ever had bonding problems?

the glass was replaced when i bought the car but in doing so whoever did it managed to break the ticket holder and even when the glass mists up (which is does very easily) there are all sorts of weird marks leading me to think its not a new sheet and is a scrapyard piece or something similar. does any of that sound plausible?

anyway,

would autoglass or similar replace this as faulty?

thanks,

toby

Is the scuttle panel clipped down along the bottom of the windscreen? My ticket holder clip is a bit broken too (on my 3rd windscreen - at least).

With regard to the misting up, have you checked the mats/carpets in the front and rear to see if they are damp? Water seems to leak into these cars very easily:

- grommet next to the pollen filter

- door membranes

- wiring room on the drivers side

- blocked sunroof drains

I doubt a poorly bonded windscreen would be replaced without you having to pay for it..... maybe a centrepunch is called for ;) but then you would have to pay the excess, or find a nice friendly garage who will pop the glass out and put it back in for you again. I had that done on my old Felicia which used to leak like a sieve after Autoglass replaced the windscreen.
