help on tuneing a vrs tdi 170bhp

Featured Replies

Hi i have the 170bhp skoda octavial vrs 2006 diesel model just wondering what to do next for performance etc car is standard at present im wanting more mpg and performance , i dont always have my foot down as am a taxi driver

any help and advice would be great

FIRST i am thinking a k & n or pipercross air filter WHAT ONE IS BETTER ANY IDEAS ??k & n http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item439b1b421b

pipercross http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item43956490a4

SECOND i here a new egr gasket is worth doing normal i here is about 24mm and the new one is about 9mm suppose to be a lot better for the car here a few ppl have got it done and been good for £2 its worth doing i think ???

THIRD dpf filter cut out the dpf then weled back up obv then get the removal software on here good results from this not getting the pipe etc just remove filter just as easy still has bend in the pipe but need car standard

FORTH remap to suit it all

id go for a green cotton or a pipercross filter thatys what i have, they are not oiled so wont mess your MAF up, then go for a decat pipe and egr detete pipe then a full custom map should see you 220 bhp at least :)

i have not seen a green cotton one yet , i cant change the car at all as it goes in for taxi test and cant be modded , thats why im going for the dpf filter being taken out , then welded back up so it look original underneath, new airfilter because they dont look at air filtet , egr gasket becuase they cant tell a new one has been fitted but they would no if i had the delete pipe on etc

I did not think a new air filter did much on a diesel as a lack of air in is not normally what is holding the power back on them.

Probably a car maintainance and Advanced driving course is the best investment if you have not already done these as many taxi drivers have of course. In my previous job I had to do courses with police driver and they helped me improve my consumption by several mpg. Also using a calbrated digital electric tyre pump, I run all my 3 Octavias at the max pressure on the filler gap as I think the vehicle spends alot of time half or fully loaded with all the clobber I carry and me being 100 Kgs to.

VAG spend billions on perfecting their cars and as Scotty says "you canny change the laws of physics" and get something for nothing. Remapping of turbo engines can give some incredible increase but to quote a line from Bladerunner:

"Tyrell: The light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy."

Get rid of the DPF & get a good remap, e.g. Shark.

Don't bother with the filter or gasket IMO.
