Ride Quality with Eibachs

Featured Replies

Good evening All

I'm a new member currently driving a company Leon FR. It's due for change later this year (should be interesting with the delivery delays) and after reading reviews, and this excellent website, fancy a white diesel VRS hatch. My employer is rather generous in that they don't mind a few mods so I was thinking Eibachs. Can anyone please advise on ride quality as my current FR is rock hard and my youngest always feels car sick. I expect more firmness than the standard VRS set up but not to the extent that I experience with the FR. Cheers.

They're really good quality ride, firm but comfortable. Their national dist. centre is a 5 minute walk from my house!

Nice one! just need a decent quote...from past posts i think I'm looking at £350 to £400 fitted by the dealer. To me the ride height looks better. Delivery times for VRS' are a bit of a worry at the mo tho.

Pair them with Koni FSD's and the ride quality is awesome!! as the handling

For a subtle drop the Eibach Pro's are one of the best quality springs you can use.

Yes, with these fitted it will still be more comfortable than your Leon :)

Seat always seem to have their setups under dampened in my experience, so the ride feels harsh.

You won't be disappointed with the Eibachs. Prices for the kit seem to be around £135 at the moment if you shop around. Then any competant mechanic can fit them for you. A set of ramps help and allow 25-30 mins per corner. So 2hrs labour plus the parts will put you around £250 all-in I reckon

Just had a quote from a main dealer for the springs - apparently they are £195.74 inc. vat.

Dealer is wanting £281.25 to fit, plus another £80-odd quid for a 4-wheel alignment.

I think if I get the eibachs done I wont be using a main dealer!

Yeah sounds expensive!

Way OTT in my opinion.

@ Tim-(sorry off topic)-is your new car going to be a Skoda/classic Vauxhall mongrel of some sort? :p I notice you have an 'Octaviva' on order...........

Having my Eibachs fitted and aligned at Midland VW in a few weeks time for £185 all in

That just the labour though Moley? i.e. £185 isn't including the price of the springs?

Correct

Eibach pro springs is what i have ordereed yesterday 20mm lower all round should be nice and keep it practical at the same time.

Thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated. Just one point....is there something specific about the Eibach Pro's in terms of ride height which makes them a better choice than standard (?) Eibachs. Sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question!

With regards to fitting I may have to stick with the stealer price as it will be a company car and the costs need to be "all in".

The Eibach springs are called "Pro-Kit" Falkster, there isn't a 'standard' set as well.

If you go on the Eibach website it shows a 20mm drop for the VRS

Where did you order them from Grizzle? How much?

Also, who are you getting to fit them for you? Be interested to see some before and after pics as I don't think 20mm will be enough for me.

I have eibach 20mm before and after pics on my PH blog as I had a set of these before I got my weitecs. I actually posted them on here first - if you search you'll probably find them.

TBH its what you'd expect - just like it was before apart from being 20mm lower :p

HTH.

Cheers Oobster...thought that was probably the case but just wanted to make sure. Will have a look at the website.

PH appears to be down Rob, I'll have a look later on.

I only do about 8.5K miles a year but have a 3yr old daughter so comfort (for her) is important - thats what is putting me off the coilovers.

I think you'd be surprised how even a 20mm drop can alter a the car's look. Mine is booked in at Midland VW soon so if you can wait...........

I have a 3yr old and a 17 month old. We have no problems with the weitecs - ok its not the most comfortable car in the world, but then the standard vrs isn't exactly a limo..

ETA: and as I've said already on here - my WRX STI rides harder on its OE suspension that the skoda on weitecs.

Eibach do offer different spring models, but it seems for the Octavia only the Pro Kit is available. They also do make OEM springs for other manufacturers. BMW come to mind, but not 100%.

Info I've gained is that they're pretty much the same spring rate as OEM, but with less soft progression at the top of the travel. As a result you end up with less dive under breaking and initial cornering, and the car will feel more composed and stable as a result. This is at the cost of *some* ride comfort, albeit small in my view. Again, matched to some uprated damping the overall experience should be better than OEM, while improving handling and looking better. It's a win-win in my book

Cheers,

Steve

I've had eibach springs on a couple of previous cars and been more than happy with the ride quality, I am just concerned that fitting them to my VRS isn't going to give me the drop I want. I am going to wait until Moley gets his fitted, and Grizzle (who is fairly local to me) is apparently getting a set fitted to his pre-FL VRS too. That should help me decide.

In my opinion rob.e's estate is pretty much the perfect ride height I would want on my hatchback, and I don't think eibach's 20mm drop will get close to the look I am after. Not really interested in the handling charecteristics (as long as it's not WORSE than standard which is nigh-on unlikely), just the look plus slightly concerned with the comfort. I only do approx. 8k miles a year, and 80% of that is motorway driving with just me in the car.

I now have doubts on fitting of the Eibachs....yes, it would be interesting to see some pics as a fair wedge could be spent on a disappointing result!

I've got some 15mm Hubcentric spacers for the rear which will give a sportier look too I hope
