You can get a proper VAG Diverter Valve for about £32 delivered....

P.S. you might find www.vagcat.com useful for part numbers and diagrams etc. You just need to register, which is free.

Cheers mate - spotted that one late last night and added it to my watch list.

Pending the outcome of todays oil leak diagnosis, I'll buy that along with the pipes from VRSerious.

Cheers mate, but I bought a new one on fleabay this afternoon. Bugger. Nevermind, thanks for the kind offer.

I have all the standard parts apart from the dump valve, I have fitted a silcone boost kit and kept all the original pipes and also have a standard air box, just incase something happens to the one from danp.

As I no longer have a mrk1 vrs you can the lot for £20 plus postage! does that sound alright?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Oil leak is sorted - the sump plug was leaking and needed sealing!! Doh. Previous owner perhaps didn't use a washer. Anyway, the garage charged me a tenner for fixing it. Bargain.

Anywho, it'd be great if I could take those pipes off your hands mate. I bought a standard DV this afternoon on fleabay. PayPal ok? - I can pay charges.

Let me know how much and your PP address. - You can pm me the details.

Cheers,

Tris

Ok, so I have the hoses now thanks to Chris (VRSerious)

I also have the diverter valve.

Seems like I already have some of the hoses in place, so happy days.

I've layed out the hoses in the places I think they should go, by looking at the previously posted pic from your engines. (thanks for those btw)

Can anyone confirm that I'm right? - The only hose I don't seem to have (or know where it goes to) is the one that comes from the top of the diverter valve. I assume I can use the naff blue one that currently runs across the engine to the dump valve? But is that blue tube going to the right place on the car to push it onto the top of the new diverter valve?

Also, the large pipe at the bottom left (intercooler pipe??) How easy is that to change? Looks like a sod to do!

Any advice welcomed! :thumbup::thumbup:

Hi mate,

The blue hose from the current diverter valve should find it’s way back to the N249 valve, which should be under the bracket/cover around the dipstick. You might want to trace it back to see where it goes.

Assuming this is the case, you can just shorten it & connect it to your new DV.

It looks like you’ve got the other hoses and DV in the right places... though you might find the diagrams below useful, if only for peace of mind that you’ve it got it right.

Hope this helps

To give yourself loads more room to work on the hose from the intercooler, just pop out the headlight unit on that side. Only takes 2 mins to pop it out, and will make changing the hose very easy.

The person that originally did the work didn't take the hose directly from the N249, so forget about looking under the inlet manifold for anything. You can trace the blue vac hose back to the hardline by the DV, and just shorten it and connect to the DV. Obviously for a perfect fit you can get the OE hose that goes from the hardline to the DV and is about 6" long (ID varies from one end to the other).

Now you just need some nice stainless hose clips, and a spare hour!

Thanks lads.

I just went out to have another shifty. That blue hose does indeed track back to the hardline. I'll use the hose that's there for now until I get an OE one. I'll get the clips tomorrow and fit it during the day. (have the day off! Woo hoo)

Hopefully that will clear my last remaining fault code - 17705 !

Thanks again

Just a thought with the intercooler hose - Do I need to worry about any oil being in there at all?

Or should it be oil free? Just so I know to be careful when I disconnect it.

Cheers

no oil in the intercooler pipe

I'm still new to my octavia, so forgive my ignorance... is it literally a hardline, i.e. rigid plastic?

Me too mate.

As far as I can tell it looks more like a metal pipeline that the silicone pipe pushes over.

Alllllllriiiighty then.

So I've put the DV back to standard - see pic:

DVDone.jpg

Thing is I still get the 17705 error code. (I did clear it before going for a run.)

And I also got the 16487 (mass air flow meter).

I know 17705 refers in part to a wrong DV being installed, or loose pipes etc. but that all is ok in my opinion now.

So I guess the next thing to try for both codes is a throttle body clean?

I also get a spluttery, holding back type affair when the car is cold. As soon as the temp gauge about quarter way up, it's all happy days again in that department. So again, I guess this is a throttle body clean?

Cheers guys

Tris

try throttle body clean if that doesn't sort it then you probably have a boost leak.

And where would a boost leak come from? Any of the pipes? Or somewhere else?

Or all of the above?

Cheers,

Ok, so I've just had a call from the missus.

The vRS has been lumpy from cold since we had it. So a TB clean is in order. That's fine. Doing that this weekend.

Thing is that usually clears when the car is warm. This morning she was up to temp and the missus still got that stuttering symtom that seems so common.

Could this still potentially be the TB or something else?

No engine management light has come on. The only light that came on was the TCS light. WHich has come on when I've driven it too. Usually comes on when you push the car hard through the rev range. But that error clears when restarting the car.

Could the stock DV have caused this new "warm" stuttering symtom? - Do I need to do some sort of reset on the system??

Gasket for TB is being ordered today and I'll get that sorted on the weekend. Maybe that will cure both cold and warm stuttering????

Tris

TCS light? Do you mean the traction control light? If so this can relate to the MAF being goosed or a boost leak. Personally if I were you I would take it to a VAG specialist and ask them to give it a once over, for the sake of a couple of hundred quid it could save you a lot of time and arse ache.

Yes mate, the traction control / abs light. Yellow Triangle with arrowed circle around it.

Well the car is holding back all the time now, regardless of car temp. Maybe one of the hoses I replaced last night popped off. I'm thinking it could be the one off the top of the DV actually..... as I didn't cable tie it in place....... :o

It was perfect last night when I test drove it after the installation. So I can only assume that a hose is loose somewhere that I replaced.

I will investigate tonight, clean TB, clean MAF and see where that gets me before going to a specialist. - Which I will be doing. Just want to do what I can first.

Tris

Think it might be worth investing in some jubilee clips... replace all the crusty ones check the hoses for holes tighten everything up if its still playing up get a (good) mechanic to look at it

I will do that tonight. I have a box of jubliees. I used new ones on the new pipes I installed for the DV though.

The only difference between my test drive and the missus using it today is the fact that she's driving it with the engine cover back on....... I read somewhere on here that it could restrict the hose on top of the DV...... I will check that tonight too!!

You are probably onto something there. I can't run my car with the engine cover for that reason.

My shiny new LPG injectors have raised my engine cover over the pipe now... sounds like that could be the problem though as its using a silicone pipe plus its not tied on.
