Newbie - Estate side pods?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just bought a 2008 Octy Estate 1.9 TDI Classic and what I need to clarify is whether it should it come with compartment boxes in the boot. In my Fabia Estate it had cubby holes at the back of each wheel arch in the boot i.e like compartments you can stow first aid etc in with a panel to enclose it with. The Octy Estate has the space for them but no panels and no obvious way of fixing them (there are 2 x floor eyelets). Can anyone tell me if there should be panels and if so where I can get hold of them / part nos (I tried looking at the part no thread).

cheers

Must be dependant on spec. My Elegance has a removable cover on each side (two lugs on the bottom of the cover locate in holes at the bottom of side panel, two twist locks secure it at the top).

No idea on availability as a spare part - you might also need to change the side panels if they don't have the securing holes, or resort to some surgery with a stanley knife....

Yes I did wonder if it was a trim thing. TBH I would be happy with a mesh /elastic web covering. Those cubby holes were very useful on the old Fabia for storing first aid, tools, light etc. If anyone else has an idea for a soultion / part no I would appreciate it

I 'retrofitted' (sounds impressive, but was no more complicated than taking them out of the packet and hanging them on the cars securing hooks!) two generic luggage nets from a pound shop type store - one on each side of my boot in front of the storage cubbies. With the Variable Boot Floor there are two 'wells' between the edge of the boot floor and the side panels which these nets turn into yet another useful storage area (ideal for carrying bottles or securing a lap top bag for example.

Realise that you probably don't have the VBF, but if your car has the securing hooks in the side panels this could be a quick (and exceedingly cheap) way of creating what you need.

Thanks - nice solution. Yes I did notice the VBF when I looked at a Ambiente model. Originally I was going for that trim but this car came up at a favourable price....

So I rang a skoda dealer today and it turns out that my classic model was not fitted with these panels from the outset.

I can buy panels really cheaply i.e at £12 a paitr but the trim iitself doesn't have the correct fitting slots and they reckon I would need to change the left & right trims at £65 each! Even if I did wanna pay that much I dont want to rip the boot out of a car I just bought 5 mins ago, Think I will either go with some "generic luggage nets" or wait until the warranty has run out in April and then buy the panles and modify the trim to fit them
