First month with the Yeti.....

Featured Replies

I've had my 170 for just over a month now and in the past week have finally managed to put some miles under its wheels. Its been out on a couple of reasonable runs has has performed very well indeed. As other owners have already said the Yeti is extremly comfortfotable over long distances, the electric seats really help to find the correct driving position. Fuel consumption from Maxidot has been a rather unfeasable 52-54 mpg, brim to brim shows a more reasonable 45-46. Still not bad for a new car. Have only had a couple of flashes from other road users about the DRL's. The engine is now beginning to loosen up and the performance is increasing, its so easy to nip through traffic with all the power....and might get it remapped for a bit more(200bhp, 400+Nm). The Xenon's just make nightdriving so much easier as well - huge improvment in brightness over the lights on my old Octy, and I didn't think they were bad .I've also got the uprated sound system. To be honest I didn't think much of it to start with, but having twiddled with the settings it does sound better. It also seems to be getting better with use, the CD player is definatly improving with use.

So all in all, do I like the car?

YES! of course I do.

and to everyone still waiting, hang on in there, it will be worth it when yours arrives.

If a 170 in similar spec had been available, I would have gone for it, probably - but the DSG a big incentive for me. So pleased you like yours - I have fallen head over heels for mine - I'm still discovering things it can do. Re the lights - I was told- everyone elses will look like candles. And you know - they do! I am envious of the fuel figures - my 140 compares if kept under 65. there you go...

Hi Andy

good to know you are loving you sm. It will not wear off i still love mine 1 year on thats when i can get it back from swmbo.

as for waiting i already have one but cant :wait: for the new one to arrive

I'm very much looking forward to my Yeti 170. (Build week 21 ???). Your fuel figures hearten me a lot. There have been many (honest) reports from drivers getting a lot less and I suspect that many of them (AND WHY NOT) are perhaps enjoying their Yetis just a little too much :smirk: . I think that I am a pretty good driver when it comes to economy (I'll report back on that bold statement asap after week 21). However your figures - especially when brim to brim are the sort I was dreaming about. You have made my day

PS I have just sold my brand new1.8TSI L&K Octavia estate at 10 months old in order to have my Yeti.

.I've also got the uprated sound system. To be honest I didn't think much of it to start with, but having twiddled with the settings it does sound better. It also seems to be getting better with use, the CD player is definatly improving with use.

Call me Mr Thicky, but HOW can the cd player sound better with use? Apart from you setting it up better, if anything, over time it can only deteriorate as the lens gets worn or dirty and the wiring/speakers get old and crummy. I know this wont apply yet, but IMPROVE?

Hang on, I just thought... You stopped listening to the Spice Girls and Take That and got some cool stuff, like Gary Numan, Nine Inch Nails, etc so, yup... It sounds much better now!/quote]

Hi. Glad you are enjoying your Yeti. Ours is only a week old. You do know you can turn off the DRLs if you find them annoying.

You're absolutely right of course, decent music cerrtainly helps...(.Queen, Dire Straits, and simalar for me, shows my age).

I'd always be led to believe that electronics such as CD,DVD need to be 'run in' to achieve best results. I of course stand to be corrected, but to my cloth ears, the systes sounds better now than when it was new.

Well, 'they' do say that home hi-fi equipment needs to be 'run in' to sound its best, so if that's true maybe it could apply to a car system as well, especially a higher end one?

Option one (from the handbook)

Deactivating the function daylight driving lights

– Pull the turn signal light lever towards the steering wheel up to 3 seconds after

switching on the ignition and at the same time, slide it to the bottom and hold it in

this position for at least 3 seconds.

Option 2

deselect in Maxidot (if fitted); somewhere in Lights and Visibility option from memory.

TP

Glad you're enjoying the SM Andy. Having an SM CR 140 that's is now faster that a 170 is fun, but Roger is right about the fuel consumption. Need to keep the speed down to keep the mpg up.

I'm almost at 2 months now and 3500 miles. Loving it to bits.

Mr. Thicky - AndyC is indeed correct, well partially, It is probably not the CD unit that sounds better but is in fact the speakers, any HI-FI buff will tell you that new speakers need to be run in. There are of course other possibilities that will add to the equation, audio electronics in a car are susceptible to humidity and are also very voltage sensitive, the alternator and voltage regulator system will bed in and settle down after a period of time and might therefore account for the apparent improvement in sound quality.

Oh dear! I (sort of) ran the car in, but certainly did not run the speakers in. Though in truth of never really cranked them open. I have the upgraded sound as well since I was used to a BOSE in my Audi.

Glad you like you car. Many more happy miles I wish your way! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif
