Traction contol light on

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,on my way to work yesterday morning the traction control/asr light came on about 5 miles into the journey and stayed on.

Checked for fault codes with a basic obd scanner (not vag com) and there were none.

once you turn off the engine and restart it the light stays out for a while, maybe 5-10 miles but comes back on and stays on.

I know it needs to be checked with vag com but due to work this aint gonna happen this week, possibly even next week!

I have done a search but didnt find much, was hoping there were somethings i could checkout in the meantime

cheers dave

I had the same problem, this is the thread from when i asked, follow the links in posts 2 and 3 and check yours to see if that is your problem

When you turn your ignition on, does the battery light come on?

Just went out to check, battery light is on with ignition/off when started as it should be

thanks for the link, looks like it could be the problem,i'll have to get under it and have a look.

If the wires are broken inside the plug how do you tell? did you use a multimeter or just wiggle/pull and the wire came out?

its just typical though, havent touched the car in 6 months so about a fortnight ago gave it a full service and sorted some of the annoying rattles and this is how it repays me!

Thanks again, dave

You probably won't even get to the wiggle stage, they normally are just hanging down.

When you turn your ignition on, does the battery light come on?

I realise this thread is a almost a over a week old but it was only today i found time to get under the car!

The problem was exactly as described above except that only one of the wires was broken (maybe why the battery light was still working?)

Wires now extended and soldered, problem sorted.God knows how much a garage would hve charged in labour to sort this,so a big thankyou is due

:thumbup::)

cheers

Sorry for the late reply, not had much internet access. Glad it was a nice easy fix for you!

Only one of my wires was broken, i knew it was inside the connector cause there wasnt any wire hanging out of it! And you are right enough, if both wires are snapped, your battery light does not come on when the ignition is turned on, i found this out when i snipped the plug off!

Glad you got i tsorted though!

I also solved the ASR light coming on after 10 mins, also just one wire, didn't snap but was pulled out of the connector. I just reinserted it and strengthen everything with duct tape and also remove the culprit, which is the wiring loom just above the ASR wires! They are way too big and heavy and were laid down on the ASR wires, I tied them up somewhere above the poor tiny wires.

Problem solved in half an hour, great forum, great advice ;)

ive got this to sort out when i get chance aswell emoticon-0112-wondering.gif
