DRL's not in the fog lights

Featured Replies

Been thinking about getting a vrs but I'm not keen on the DRL position and lack of fog lights so I thought.......

IF you get DRL strips from ebay and put them inside the head lights, so it would have an audi'esc look. Then rewire them to the original wiring coming from the DRL's in the fog lights.

Would this work?

Then wire the old DRL's (you have all the parts needed, just a set of new bulbs) to the fog light function of the switch...

So you'd have DRL's in the head lights, that would be wired correctly to turn off when the main beams come on, and also get fog lights?

Crazy talk or what?

DRL's have to extinquish as soon as lights are turned on, fog lights extinquish when main beam comes on.

The DRL's set up wouldnt change, since they would just be wired to a different set of leds stuck in the head lights. Although im not too sure about the foglights but I could see it working..

I have my DRl's wired up to the sidelights so they are active with those, it just ads that extra bit of visibility and presence. They arent stupidly bright either, never had any hassle but plenty of compliments

Personally, I prefer the functionality of the DRL's inplace of Fog lights..

How often are you likely to have visibility less than 100 metres to give you legality to turn them on??

Maybe twice a year???

I would leave them as they are

Not true.

Look at the many Merc's and Audi's driving round with DRL's on all the time.

Not sure about the fog lights having to extinguish when you use main beam either as the Superb (at least, possibly all VAG cars?) the coding can be changed with VCDS to enable fogs to be lit with main beam on - pointless yes, but possible.

Personally I am not a fan of the DRL in the fog position as some people will think you are one of the many stupid chav's that think it looks cool to drive round with fog lights on in perfect visibility, but changing the position to the headlight AKA Audi is almost as bad

Anyway would you really want to take a pair of brand new headlights apart, voiding the warranty?

It seems we keep getting told by the police to switch of our fog lights...

As the car is very rare on the roads at the moment, I have switched the DRL's off compleatly until they become more common on all (new) cars. Im still waiting for when I get stopped for the side lights being on though...

I personally like DRL`s inplace of the front fog light`s it was one of the thing that set the fabia vRS apart and they dont look to bad

The Audi and Merc DRLS, stay on all the time, as do the ones fitted to the Octy vRS BUT they dim dramatically as soon as the headlights are turned on. Because DRLs are designed to be seen in bright sunlight, at night they are nothing but incredibly dazzling if they do not dim.

The DRLs fitted in the Fabia do not replace the foglights, they are an additional bulb in the foglight housing. This means you still have normal foglights and DRLS.

I just don't know why skoda never put them in the headlamp cluster anyway!

Hi there

Regarding the question about fog lights

on the Fabia vrs as far as I can tell the DRLs are inplace of the fog lights

During the day (side lights switched off) as soon as the engine is started the DRLs light up

When the side light switch is put in the side light position the DRLs dim (to comply with the new regulayions ? )

In the headlight unit there is no place for a side light bulb unlike other Fabias

Is this correct?

If you want fog lights thay can be incorporated into the lower grill and wired to a switch in the car

Does the vRS have a 2 position fog light switch (pull out one notch for front and 2nd notch for both front and rear)?.

Does the vRS have a 2 position fog light switch (pull out one notch for front and 2nd notch for both front and rear)?.

No, rear only.

The DRLs effectively replace the front fog lights.

Hi there

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the DRLs in the Fabia vRS (which are in the place of fog lights)with fog lights as fitted to other Fabias

There is no front fog light switch, so you would stuggle.

The DRLs are just as effective as front fogs in my opinion.
