Head Unit Output

Featured Replies

hi all ,my kenwood hd unit says its 50W X4 does that mean it puts out 12.5 W per channel? the reason i ask is that my front speakers have a nominal input /rms of 35W and the rears are 25rms if this is true it means my fronts are under powered a bit also there is a setting for speaker size what do i set this to? i have 17cm comps in the front and 13cm co axial in the rear, the choices i have are OEM 6X9's/6" and 4"/5"and off

cheers

I know this is an old thread but....

50w x 4 usually means peak wattage, not RMS, so it will probably be about 15-25 watts RMS, and it means 50w x 4, i.e. 200w total.

Like you say, a bit underpowered, especially if you like to listen to it loud, as the amp may start to clip which will damage the speakers.

I'd set it to 6". All it will do is tailor the eq to how different size speakers respond to different frequencies.
