Back In A Skoda...

Featured Replies

well, I'm back in the skoda fold as of tomorow, here's a picture of my new baby....

image0283.jpg

it was pre-registered by the garage, not used as a demonstrator (only 14 miles on the clock) ,extras: has white wheels, Media input (for ipod ect) steering wheel controls for media system and full size spare wheel.

MINT!

Hopefully I'm picking it up tomorow :)

Very nice.

Did you get a deal on it ?

Enjoy the car and keep us posted on how it is.

Man I am jealous.....don't even have a build date on our estate yet!

The white wheels really don't do it for me...each to their own though. I've ordered Rallye Green (with green roof) with the dark chrome alloys. Does anyone have a link to this exact combination as I can't find a Rallye Green vRS with anything other than a black roof!

Thanks everyone, can't wait for tomorow!

as for a deal, it was sort of six of one, half a dozen of the other..... it cost about the same as a new fabia vrs on the VAT deal (but that doesn't take into account the optional extras on this one) and even though it is pre registered, it is new (14 miles, never driven apart from delivery) so I skip the waiting time....

I am paying the same price as for a new one, but then the garage gave me much more trade in for my car than my local skoda garage offered me for it against a new one! so I am happy with that, I don't mind that its spent a couple of months sitting in a nice warm showroom... :)

I'll post some more pics when I get it in the next few days...

I did a long test drive at my local dealer, but I will also post a review when I'm a few thousand miles in!

and wierdly enough, the white wheels clinched it for me! lol.... I was going to go for dark chrome on a new build....

lol.. i may do Chris, I think i have that day off ;)

and keep up with you? I understand a little more about the gearbox now (I could keep up with the manual version of your car, but not the DSG!) and its the 7 speed close ratio that does it... actually makes the car faster due to shorter ratios... very clever stuff ;)

and the wheels? meh, dirty wheel will just add to the "rally" look :p

edit: I will also have a unique modification no one else will have... dual brake goes in on Thursday! lol...

OK, picked up my car today, and have now covered 150 miles, a new picture and a short review of first impressions...

post-5410-0-90308300-1297180997_thumb.jpg

I've previously chosen deisels because I like efforless torque, and dislike the way revvy petrols don't give that power unless you are in exactly the right gear at the right time!, this engine however is a GEM (the gearbox really helps) pleanty of low down pull, thanks to the supercharger, and mad between 4500-7000 revs, mated with the quick changes of the box, and the very short ratios helping to keep it on the boil, make this car really good fun! and its less to tax than my deisel, and when I went for an economy run I got 45mpg (although this dives as soon as you start racing around! :giggle: ), all not bad considering after my first day, its still only covered 150 miles... I assume it will loosen up, and give better power and better fuel economy!

build quality is excellant (typical skoda) but equipment is scarce, I even have the media in option, but couldn't connect my memory stick as I need a lead! (I just plugged it in the fiats system, which also had voice command and bluetooth, again, missing as standard on the skoda)

LOVE the seats... lovely lateral support, great for cornering hard..

I have had to resort to the handbook to turn the running lights on, but thats now done (does the vRS have halogen lioghts as standard? I cant tell....)

handling is good, nice steering, high levels of grip, feels a little jittery in very fast corners though (the fiat never felt like that) as if its a really short wheelbase, reminds me of my C2 GT, but it seems to be slightly bigger inside than the fiat ? hhmmmm maybe the tyres just need to bed in.

overall, I'm very happy.

I'll post a bigger review when more miles have gone on it

Nice wee review Dave, and I love your driving school sign as well.

Davy

Are you actually going to use it as a driving school car?

Are you actually going to use it as a driving school car?

+1.

Out of interest, if someone had an automatic only driving licence are they legally allowed to drive a car with DSG??

He is ..Yes!!

Dave..Nice first review..Yoiu can get a cable from eBay

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Mdi+Cable&_sacat=See-All-Categories

The bulbs are H7 Dipped and H7 Main..Standard bulbs a little poor....I uprated ours to Ring Max+100%..Better

thanks for the link Chris, and I'll be along to your meet, give me a drive!

and I work full time for the NWAS but do 12 hour shifts so have 3-4 days off a week, I do about a full day or 2 half days driving tuition, so yes it will be used as a driving school car, though not very often, I doubt I'll cover more than 15k a year, (when I used to do 50k + a year!) I was suprised by my insurance company too, NO increase in premium between the fiat and the vRS! mint! (I think thats what I'll Call it... MINT! ;) )

To answer the other Q. DSG is classed as an automatic (as is any box without a manual clutch) so if you pass in an auto, you can only drive an auto.. (and you can drive DSG on an out only liscence as no clutch!)

HOWEVER... one day and the car is creating big interest, I already have a pupil who has his own car, is learning with his dad, and is still gonna have lessons with me in the vRS, (and some in his horrible hyundia i10) but do his test inhis car so he can drive anything......

ALSO ... I was in my first petrol station in it (filling up with V-Power) and 2 lads about 20 years old in a modified corsa were checking out as i came out of the shop... "ay up mate, that yours?" ... "yes" ... "Nice....." a short conversation followed, seems skoda have changed their image with the next generation, they will both be potential customers when they make enough money...

All good stuff!

Well done Dave,

Nice to have you back in the Skoda fold

Seems like you got a good deal.

Dave..Nice first review..Yoiu can get a cable from eBay

:

Was there no cable in the car when you collected it?! The brochure says "MDI + Cable", so the dealer should provide one free of charge....

A few people have had problems with this but a quick call to Skoda customer services usually solves it.

Of course there a two different cable available (1 for ipod and the other is USB) so you are only entitled to one of them and would have to pay for the other if you wanted both.
