Octy Mk1 Vrs Aircon Sounds Like A Printer

Featured Replies

Hi ya,

Following advice from yesterday's briskoda/SCN meet, bangin in a new thread regarding my aircon.

Used to make 'boiling water' noise upon starting cold engine for few minutes during cold season (common issue AFAIK), but now noticed that it constantly makes this weird noise. Could not find anything more descriptive than video below :)

When engine is running, no matter whether AC is on or off, can always hear this particular noise (just 3-4 times slower compared to the printer) from somewhere behind/under the glove box.

Or it's not AC at all?

Thanks for any constructive ideas

If you turn the climatronic off does the noise stop?

The climatronic system has a load of motorised flaps and they pulse every second or so. Sometimes a motor can fail and it makes a kind of scratchy sound.

If you sit in your car in silence with the ignition on, you can hear it twitching. It won't do it unless the fan is runnign though.

if i turn it off (after keeping it on for a while), the noise stays, just dont know for how long though.

Thanks to guys on skoda chat (Fatty5000, Jim H), now i'm 98% sure it's flap motor and it does make a difference when i'm turning on/off recirc :)

Does sound like a flap motor of some kind.

mmm, 9 pin dot matrix....

I think I still have a 9 and 24pin brother ones knocking about at my parents, and a Star LC(10?)-24. Such a geek! :'(

To add something useful, I would suggest the re-circ flap, seems to be quite common.

A bit off topic, but I had the car running with MAF, DV, and N75 disconnected and no air filter today. :S Was changing the tip, and started to dismantle the top of it i.e. dv etc, then realised I needed to drive up onto the ramps. Doh!

Anyway, checked for fault codes and low and behold I got the recirc flap V71 fault code (as well as 4 other ones :o ), and didn't even know it wasn't working. :wonder:

I've been wondering what that noise is!!! Mine used to do it until you got to 30mph and then it would shut up, but now its always doing it. If you press the recirculation button it gets louder.

So if it is the flap motor (which sounds likely) whats the cure? can i just take the old one apart and clean it or is it a new part from the stealersdealers. Mines a 51 vRS btw.

Im experiencing the exact same noise and its driving me up the wall :wonder:

I think you need to get a new motor. The plastic gearbox wears out, stopping the flap from moving.

Absolute pig to get to apparently.

oh joy, wouldnt have thought it'll be cheap either. Oh well just another thing in the random sound generator that is my Octy vRS :giggle::dull:

Must sort out those squeaky rear brakes as well
