HTC Desire ROM

Featured Replies

I've just discovered that my HTC Desire can be flashed with a new ROM, which are usually quicker and have more features on them than the stock ROM you get from T-Mobile.

Anyone got any suggestions / resources I can take a look at before doing this? I have already rooted the phone using unRevoked 3.

Can anyone recommend me a ROM?

Quite a few people have used Leedroid to good effect.

Yes I'll be attempting to flash this over the weekend.

Have you got a HTC Desire? Someone has suggested the Cynogen Mod.. Just reading up on it now. If you flash it this weekend, any chance you can point me in the direction of the documentation you used.

Yeah just the normal desire. I'll let you know how I get on.

Here's the main thread on XDA and here is their mini site that also has a Dropbox for the files. Use the 'A2SD' version and format your SD card in ext3 mode (I think) to benefit more.

You may also want to S-Off your phone and if so, the link is here.

note that cyanogen mod and many others are based on ASOP.. so you will loose all the fancy HTC sense features you are used to.. (which is pretty much the whole look and feel of the phone)

There are also several roms now using the Desire HD version of sense..

Check out THIS THREAD over on XDA which gives you a good overview of all the choice you have.. at the moment i would definately reccomend staying away from gingerbread roms, as they are definately not stable.. i run it on mine and get stuck in bootloop at least once a day.

Its down to preference really, i started using Leedroid, then moved to OD and now im running Oxygen.. mainly because my phone/launcher etc is heavily customised anyway.

Having tried an HD rom and it causing mega problems, I went back to Leedroid but needed to do a full wipe as well as clearing all the various caches etc due to something getting left behind.

This meant I had to reinstall a few apps and now I'm a bit more hesitant about installing other roms but it's not exactly hard to do.

P.S. Neo - there's more roms based on AOSP then ASOP. :p

That's what Nandroid backup's are for!

I have been using Leedroid for absolutely ages now! I can honestly say I have had no problems with it. Works very well and is fast.

If you want a load of apps space then use the A2SD build and create an EXT3/4 partition on the SD card of about 500-700mb then resize the system partitions etc to give more space to Data. Even with A2SD enabled things still get put on the system memory that can't be avoided so you can still run out of room.

I have LOADS of apps installed and still have 66mb system free and 150mb a2sd free.

I'd actually done one but it wouldn't restore due to some incompatibility which I'd forgotten about until you've just mentioned it. There has been a few threads about it but I didn't see them until after I needed to know about it. emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Just thought I'd mention that there's a Leedroid v3 (now up to v3.06) and so far it's been quite good to use.

Hint - try doing it without using the 'alignment zip' first as that corrupted my sd card meaning I had to reformat it.

You might want to try this;

http://unrevoked.com/

One click rooting, said to be failsafe, and works on most current HTC handsets.
