Yeti kerb weights down!

Featured Replies

Hi all

As my new SM is now sat on the drive I thought I'd join the forum, this is my first post. Surprisingly I didn't have to wait too long for the desirable beasty either. Ordered on 02/11/10 from Claybank Motors, Manchester and received 11/02/11. What a fantastic car!

To start the ball rolling can anyone tell me why the quoted kerb weights of the whole Yeti range has taken a nose dive? For instance my model (SE 2.0 TDI CR 140 4x4) is quoted as being 1,530 kg in my original brochure dated 25th May 2010 but on the latest brochure dated 4th January 2011 this is reduced to 1,455 kg! This is a substantial difference and if it's to believed by my reckoning it ups the power to weight ration from 90 to 95 brake horse power per tonne. Are the original quoted weights a mistake or the new weights a mistake? All very strange if you ask me!!

Noticed this too, as the details in Diesel Car mag have changed too. The whole range has gone down in weight. Take the Octavia vRS diesel. When I first looked in 2007 the hatch weighed 1500Kg, my March 2009 one weighed 1430Kg, my September 2010 one weighs 1475Kg, however it is now quoted as its lightest ever at 1390KG ... all according to Skoda! As a caravanner the weight of a car is all important, had I ordered one expecting it to weigh 1475Kg and then got one weighing only 1390Kg I could go from a reasonable towing match to a bad one. Now I don't think the car's actual weight has changed much, it is more likely to be the way they have decided to calculate it. I know they do not include 75Kg for the driver and luggage that many others makers add.

I just wish they'd make their minds up!

What weight does it actually state on the VIN plate? That is the one that counts, not what is stated in various publications.

The kerb weight measurement method I thought was fixed by all Euro manufacturers now, so it isn't a calculation. It is the weight of the vehicle full of consumables, (oil, petrol, water, spare if fitted) plus a 75 kg driver. Could the spare be the difference?

As as a caravanner myself I really can't see the problem, even allowing for the 80% guidance there is only 60kg difference between the 2 stated weights, and I noticed in the caravan press that both Clubs are now consideing upping their guidance to 85%. Our van has a MGW of 1050kg and it is all too easy to forget it's there, and there are other owners on here towing much heavier vans.
