Mitsubishi L200 Anyone any experiences/thoughts

Featured Replies

Possibly looking at getting one, Drove a shogun a few times recently & really enjoyed it, makes you drive gently. I want another vehicle for a bit of fun & to use as a hack & I can potentially get one for good money. I know its not in the same class as a shogun but might be a bit more fun. Anyone any Experience of them, all Ive established so far is they need to carry a bit of weight in the back & they do tend to "fall over" fairly easily (Look through the salvage yards & there are loads of rolled ones)

Don't know much about it, but I too am considering something along those lines, possibly a 2nd hand disco or something like that. Would love a defender but not really practical for my mileage. X-Trail is another I'm considering.

Someone shoot me :D

I like the looks of the black warrior sport l200 with the quad lights. Although they are a bit gutless.

My parents bought a new pickup last year they tried the, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and the Nissan Navara. They bought the Nissan as it was by far the better vehicle with a strong engine, good body control and solid build quality.

I had a Toyota Hilux double cab for about 8 months. It was one of the most practical vehicle you could ever own! Providing you don't do loads of motorway miles, have deep pockets and like petrol stations.

Mine was a 2.4 TD and around town I was getting around 18/20MPG on the motorway maybe 22ish.

If it is the double cab pick up they look good.Only problem was the awful rear seating. Bloomin tiny!!.Only been in the Nissan version so I don't know if the mitsubushi is the same.I should check it out though(unless of course it's just for you! :D )

Had one of these as a 'Loan car' when my Galant was being serviced, the Animal edition.

It was a lot of fun to drive, even SWMBO enjoyed it and managed to park it in a multi-storey.

It was the 2.5 turbo diesel and seemed lively enough - obviously not as refined as a car but the high driving position and comfortable seats made for a pleasant experience.

Seriously thought about buying one.

The whole experience was enhanced because the service manager had left the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack in the CD changer...so on went the long black coat and shades with 'Little Green Bag' blaring out :D

Think long & hard before you get a Disco, several friends have had them & they aint exactly the best screwed together or most reliable, also stear clear of Jap Imports, hard to insure & they are quite different in spec to UK Models, With your mileage I would suggest a Shogun or an Izuzu trooper, I had a lot of friends in the balloning world & these prooved the favourites, solid, rugged, good off road but also pleasant on long journeys, the Shogun 2.8 Diesel Auto would be my first choice

Another vote for the Navara here... Had several as loans and they're not only practical and give you a commanding view of the road, but in 2WD High they're also ace fun to drive, with proper RWD handling if you're brave enough to ignore the massive amounts of body roll!!!

I've driven alot of L200's they are pretty good and don't give much trouble. they are abit gutless standard but go pretty good with a chip on the >01 models or tune up on the older ones

Heard some good things of the L200, I know owendevelopments in Oxford do alot of things in conjunction with Mitsubishi... might be worth chatting to them re tuning potential.

L22 is not a comparable drive to a shogum though... much more commercial in origin.. driven a couple and seem closeer to defender than disco in drive..

having drive a late disco.. they do actually hold together now.. and the new shape is fantastic.. but sodding expensive .

Wouldnt ever touch a Disco. A m8 is on his third, each one from new and not kept more than 3 years. Each one had had serious problems, the current one being 2 years old and decided to dump the contents of its engine sump half way up a mountain on a skiing trip.

It is also on its third gearbox.

I've driven the L200, the Navarra and also the Ford Explorer/Ranger. The L200 does look pretty cool, but due to it's poser status it's likely to get you slagged off more than a "school run mum" in a BMW X5.

These 4x4 pickups are not as practical as you think either - the back seat space is generally crap and the load area ain't actually that big either - it just takes a standard pallet and no more.

The bottom line is that although they may be fun to drive for a blast about at the weekend you need to drive it on the daily commute, stuck in traffic, in the city centre, on the M-way ........... in which case it simply isn't as good as a car. Personally I couldn't live with that otherwise I might have bought one myself.

If you are determined to get one I'd go for the Navarra every time, better spec and it's cheaper too. The Ford is a good shout too as it shares mechanicals with the Nissan, is cheaper to service and insure but doesn't look as good.

Jsut been having a look round and I'm tempted by a Shogun Sport

Shoot me, shoot me now :D

Dont forget the 22" chrome wheels that are a must :o

20mpg on an l200? thats shocking for that sort of fuel economy you might aswell get an f150 like below, my gf's mums bf has one.

20mpg for a 113bhp diesel or 16 mpg for a 365bhp f150. :o
