What if not a Yeti?

Featured Replies

If the Yeti did not exist ( during the long wait, beginning to wonder if it actually does :giggle:) what would you have bought?

Of course some want 2WD, while for others nothing but 4WD will do. Some want petrol while others insist on diesel.

Would your choice have been from the Skoda range or would it be a different marque completely ?

I would have stuck with another Octavia Scout - ideal in all ways except I prefer the higher seating/access of the Yeti (advancing years!) and the more compact size.

If I hadn't driven the Yeti I would still have the perfectly good Octy I traded in (and be £££££'s richer) - but I wouldn't go back to the old car now!

Andy

Our short list included the Golf, A3, Qashqui and even the Fiat 500 (the Wife really likes them!).

Superb Combi 4x4 170 HP 2.0 TDI no doubt. This was not available when I bought the Yeti.

Alternative Octy Combi Scout 2.0 TDI

Kitten and I were also looking at the Cashcow, but glad Skoda had built the Yeti :giggle:

It's a MUCH better car than the Nissan in SOOOO many different ways, and SOOOOO many levels.

Landrover Freelander 2. More expensive, slower ,less economical,a little too large and probably less reliable....Thank goodness the Yeti came along.

Seat Altea XL

We looked far and wide...

Some of what we looked at....Mainly 2WD

Vauxhall Meriva/Zafira...Large Discounts but huge depreciation put us off.. A mixture of bland and flashy styling.

Kia Vanga...Looks well built but its a KIA though styling come on leaps if not bounds..slightly tempted.

Hyundai iX35 Again well built, slightly tempted.

Suzuki Grand Vitara..inside not right.

VW Touran...too van like..uncomfortable seats, side cushions too hard.

VW Golf Plus...didn't take to it somehow...seating similar problems...pricy.

Honda CRV...Just too big and pricy ..didn't like latest body styling.

Ford C-Max..Nearly right package but poor dealers/reliability issues. Poor auto shift.

Citroen C4 Picasso..A bit over the top ..expensive auto..Electric handbrake.

Nissan Cashcow...a bit too chunky without the expected inside space..Poor local dealer.

Mazda 5 ...Horrendous tyre wear problems not sorted over a long period...Sliding rear

doors. Poor dealer.... customer care issues (like Skoda UK!!!)

Mitsubishi Outlander..A step too far...big engine ..too big footprint.

Stumbled on Yeti on internet, went to see it, bought it..NEIGHBOURS IMPRESSED...

didn't expect that!!

Noticed you liked the Hyundai iX35 but do not mention its close cousin, the Kia Sportage - better looking IMO and with great warranty.

May have viewed..Too large, 4WD only springs to mind but maybe wrong..

If had not stumbled on Yeti...Would probably have waited or gone for Kia Vanga or Hyundai iX35...Even latest Ford C-MAX ..imminent when bought Yeti doesn't appeal..

Ford styling a bit too much for my conservative tastes.

Would have preferred a Honda but next up from Jazz had me crouching in the front

looking at the headlining..crap headroom for tall person.

Noticed that the Auto Express jurno's rated the Sportage above the 2wd Freelander and that mess (personal view) from BMW the X1. been interesting if they had thrown a 1.4TSI Monster in the mix :wonder:

The one with the 7 year warranty..(KIA/HYUNDAI??) gave us no financial advantage as only comes with 1 year RAC

cover. As we change cars every 3 years the 3 year warranty AND BREAKDOWN cover suits us better saving 2 years

breakdown cover costs.

Amazingly, it would have been either a VW Scirocco with the same 140 CRd engine or the new Honda CRZ.

Local dealer lent me the Yeti I eventually bought when wife's Roomster was in for service. It felt so right that I forgot all thought of a stylish coupe and I don't regret it.

At the last service they lent me a 1.2 Fabia - I think Mrs T had told them not to lend me their VRS demonstrator!

It was very nearly a Volvo XC60 for me - R-Design in white

Kia Sportage 3 for me, would have gone way over budget though.

Hi

The wait and price now of a fully loaded Yeti has made me look at other options and think if I really need 4x4.

I enjoy driving a sporty diesel and after loads of trouble the Bmw is running as it should. I've just spent £800

On 4 new tyres so I need to gat around 6 months driving out of those.

Btw a friend of mine has just bought a Mazda 3 sport. I went out in it and it's fantastic. 185bhp and it goes like

a rocket, it felt quicker than my 320d. Also it comes with everything inc sat nav etc

Great car for just over 20k would be around 6 grand cheaper than the yeti!

Michael.

Had to rein back aspirations as Honda Jazz (not necessarily a style choice) was 10% too small.

Found that seeking this 10% raised price from 13.5K TO 20++K very easily.

Why did we buy (not in priority order)..

Great combination of headroom and accessibility for tall and short people. (good seat height adjustments when changing driver, easy access).

Good driving position ...no looking at the headlining for tall people.

Just about enough boot space with spare wheel option fitted.

Stylish design in and out.

Good quality materials throughout.

Great spec for price (SE)

Good engine/auto box...good performance.

Dislikes...

That monstrosity of design and functionality the 'Jumbo box/arm rest' Intrudes into rear seat legroom.

Poorly executed rear seat folding arrangement.

Boot cover arrangement..better with a retracting roller blind arrangement or similar.

Boot spare.. if you are going to use a space saver tyre why not a slightly narror profile

that doesn't compromise the boot space....

Exterior plastic trim difficult to keep black and streak free.

Confusing owner manual...items poorly illustrated or explained.

Road spray dirt on rear boot area seams a bit excessive.

Skoda UK ..awfull product knowledge...

Inconsistancies in accessory/option availability across markets.

Roof arial too high.

Drivers interior mirror too low.

Confusing Maxidot terminology.

Still love it though!!

I was replacing a Volvo V50 (cr*p engine - Peugeot 2.0 diesel), and wanted to come back into the Volkswagen/Audi group fold (having previously owned a Mk1 Scirocco, two Mk2 Golf GTI, a Golf VR6, a Passat Estate and an A4 Avant).

Engine choice first - 2.0 diesel. I do 25k plus miles a year, including a couple of 1800 mile return trips across France

Considered Golf Estate, Passat Estate, Seat Exeo estate (which is essentially the previous model A4). Current A4 way out of my price range. I need room in the back for a big dog; to carry ski gear across France, and to carry sailing gear in the summer.

Decided I wanted 4X4. I live best part of a mile from the nearest properly surfaced road, on a steep farmtrack 800 feet up a Pennine hillside. This and last winter have been awful and I've frequently had to park on the main road and walk. Have previously driven a Freelander, and thought about it for all of 30 seconds ;) . Probably better off road than the Yeti, but much less comfortable on the road (its a bit of a truck) which is where most of my driving is done

Final choice came down to Tiguan, Octavia Scout and Yeti. Really pleased with the choice, Scout would have been the second option. Can't believe the price of a Tiguan!

I really liked the Golf Plus but not the price (above my budget truthfully) or the residuals being quoted.

I really wanted the DSG option so it was going to be a VW group purchase and I had pretty much settled on a Roomster until I made the "mistake" of sitting in a Yeti in the showroom!

Like others I looked at everything that I could within sensible driving distance to try and ensure that I had coverred all bases before taking the plunge.

I wanted a diesel 4x4 and a DSG gearbox, so whatever would have given me that option, failing that I would have stayed with the old Octavia.

Mike

I looked at the Yeti when it first came out and the only real thing I didn't like was, I thought it looked a bit like a 4x4 hearse from the front. Now I have seen them on the road in bigger numbers I have changed my mind and like the looks. The only other SUV I looked at seriously was the X-Trail (which I used to sell in times gone by) and consider them a good alternative. They are slightly more Off Road biased, so there is a trade off when it comes to overall use, but they are great value for money :) When I sold my 123D I looked at the X1 but was put off by the interior and lack of a bigger engine being available.

VW Tiguan (6month old Ex Demo)

Interesting response Lady Elenor I also like the x trail and have seen the brand new shape ones with a couple of thousand mile on for around £22,000 and that's the top spec tekna. Great value but for me I would worry about the on road ability. Fuel ecomonuy and co2 are not great either! Any thoughts on the mazsa sport 185?

Michael.

No Yeti?

Would probably have watied for the new Kia Sportage.
