Strange clutch noise

Featured Replies

managed to get a few secs of the noise i was talking about

Recorded this on the phone its not hugely loud but not something i've heard before on a petrol car.

it only happens when the clutch is engaged (i.e foot not pressing clutch) and then goes away when disengaged. i cant hear it when driving.

I've been told its either the input shaft bearing or a clutch release bearing but on a 30k mile car seems very odd.

Mine is going into the dealer today for 3 days to have the gearbox repaired & i have noticed a faint knocking noise when cold from the clutch/gearbox area that goes when i press the clutch peddle down,im going to mention this to them today so i will let you know what they say.Mine is a 58 plate with 17k on the clock.

Christ!!!! 17k!! not great confidence then eh, please let me know buddy, i have had Border Skoda on the phone wanting to take the car away on a trailer and give me a new Vrs as courtesy car until they "investigate the matters further" :wonder:

Mine is crunching into 2nd gear when cold, hopefully it will come back all repaired & like new, this hasnt put me off what is a very good car,its just one of them things that happens to cars, its under warrenty & the dealer has been very helpfull up to now & ive got a roomster to run round in until its fixed. If you like your car id give the dealer chance to put the faults right then just enjoy the car,it could go on to give you 10 years trouble free service.

Yeh i always give someone a second chance (personal reasons) so fingers crossed its all fixed oh and the courtesy car??... a Toyota Auris lol

Just seen this in your other thread. I'd come up with the thought that it was maybe the release bearing, based on the fact that it went away when the clutch was disengaged.

Again, a decent dealer should be able to fault find that.

In general the 2.0TFSI boxes and clutches are usually pretty solid and survive decent mileages. 100k is common for both. As ever, it just depends how it's been treated and the type of journeys done.

So I'd say it was unusual, but not impossible, for those sorts of parts to need replacing on a car of that age and mileage.

Again, good luck with it

I'd look on the bright side and at least you'll get fresh parts to begin your ownership. Better for it to go now, then a couple of months out of warranty... :)
