Aircon with a burning smell

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently started getting a burning smell when I switch the Aircon on. After checking a few other posts for other cars, this seems to indicate a faulty Compressor. Does anyone know if this is the same for a Mk I Fabia? If so, are there any guides (preferably with pics) on how to change the compressor?

Thanks

Depends on the year of the car. Some units have shear clutches that release if the compressor seizes. It's not really a DIY job, as the aircon gas needs to be removed using a machine. The V belt tensioner pulley will need to be checked as well, as they frequently seize as well.
