16 or 17 inch wheels

Featured Replies

I have ordered a Fabia Monte Carlo 105 TSi with the standard 16 inch Comet wheels, but it is still possible to change to 17 inch Trinity wheels. I am however afraid that 17 inches is a little to much on the small Fabia. As I live in Norway, and the roads are not in good order after the winter, I suppose the ride comfort and the handling will suffer on the bad road, but I don't know for sure..... But still, the 17 inches looks cool, and it is a cool car..... Any advise?

Hi yes they will look cool but at a price "comfort"!!

I thought the monte carlo was really all about bold looks, i'd be tempted to have the 17" wheels unless the design isnt as nice.

I somewhat agree, but the black Comet wheels doesn't look to bad either. But I think we have a lot of Fabia owners here with first hand experience with 17" wheels. Do you feel that you sacrifice to much comfort for the looks?

I suspect you won't get a sensible answer, as everyone has their own view of what's "comfortable".

For what it's worth, there's no question that a 16" wheel will be more comfortable at the expense of cornering sharpness.

Comming from a VRS with the 17's and 40's

I'd suggest you stick with the 16's as although 17's look good they are always going to be a massive compromise on ride comfort, in the VRS you kind of expect that though. However in the monte I'd say your better going 16's and the extra comfort.

I had the stock Comets on my Elegance and swapped them for the vRS alloys and I can't say I have noticed any difference at all. Other than the 17s look a bit less lost in the arches.

IMO I would opt for 16 v the new 17 wheels. I have just moved from VRS 1 to VRS 2 and last winter has left some serious potholes in the road which thump so I spend my time peering at the kerb!

The small improvement in grip does not compensate for worse ride and more noise.

Car is still the dogs danglybits!

my vote would be to stick with the 16's I think the lower profile 17's would add more road noise, as well as the harsh ride as there is no give whatsoever in the 17" tyres, (The VRS suspension might be adding to this as well though)

dont find my 17s noiser (in fact I found them quieter!) but yes the ride is quite harsh - made more so by my cars Eibachs!

I have decided to stick with the 16 inches. My car is going to be produced week 11 and it is to late to change anything... I think the Monte Carlo will be a good looker even with the Comet wheels :-) Thank you all for your opinions.

Roso,

I also decided to go for the 16" wheels.

However, since i ordered the Black magic pearl, I will buy myself OZ Superturismo WRC in 16"

By the way, when did you order your Fabia?

I orded my Active in week 49, and my dealer says it's expected to be built in week 19 :(

The last week of January :-) Maybe the production time is shorter for cars with the steering wheel on the left side?
