Thoughts on progress North of Glasgow

Not a meet thread, but a local advice thread :)

To get to Roybridge, east of Fort wIlliam from the south.

I've traditionally gone Stirling then cross country.

We came back via loch Lomond, most;y resurfaced now so good progress can be maintained.

Whilst travelling the option of using the A9 to go further north then cut almost due west was discussed.

Google maps suggests there is little in either route.

From a locals perspective, which route is easier to maintain a good avg speed of >40 mph after 9pm ;) Without too many chances of meeting the paparazzi in disguise?

Well, I can usually keep up an average in the 50s on the A82 between Dumbarton and Spean Bridge (where you'd be turning off to get to Roy bridge). There are warnings of Scameras and unmarked bikes, but those mostly apply to Summer weekends when they're hunting power rangers.

I'm with Ken here, you should get a good run up the A82 at the time of night your going. However i dont know if the 10pm rule still exists after Tarbet? (i havent been up since New Year and it still existed then) Just something to bare in mind

Whats the Tarbet 10pm rule?

Checked with a friend who stays up in Mallaig , the roadworks have been finished so the rule has been lifted, should get a cleaar run up

Colin - They used to stop cars going up Loch Lomond side at 10pm due to work they were doing to the sides of the roads(land slips, line marking etc etc) , instead diverting them via Oban :)

super, i might give it a run then. I've not gone north by Lomond in over 10 years.

I came south a few weeks back and was happy to find fewer potholes than my own road, handy when pressing on ;)

When going to Skye nowadays (past Roy Bridge) from Derbyshire I almost always take the A9 to Dalwhinnie then head West. I always find it slow via Loch Lomond, except in the ealry hours of the morning.
