Loan car while I wait

Featured Replies

Had a call from the dealer yesterday who has confirmed that he was processing my loan car paperwork and I should hopefully have a vehicle by the weekend. Not 100% certain what it will be..

It seems that Skoda are supplying up to 14,000 loan cars (or "after sales support vehicles") to their customers who have been waiting a long time for their vehicles.

Not sure about insurance yet. I think I can run it on Skoda's, but the excess may be pretty high so it might just be easier to swap my own insurance and maintain this years no claims bonus.

Will update when I know more :)

Fingers crossed you end up with something half decent. Any idea of how long you'll need to use it for?

I had a build week of week 5, but then it was pushed back to build week 18 so if that doesn't change then the car would be here around the end of May, so that's about 3 1/2 months. I'll add about 3,500 miles to the loan car in that time :giggle:

I wonder what model is not selling so well at the moment.......

You may be about to enjoy a 3 cylinder Roomster before too long!!

I recall the Skoda excess is £500

Ocatvia seem to be in demand, it seems the Ocatvia L&K orderd for my wife will take the same time as the Superb I took delivery of in November which was a 24 week wait.

Hmmm...

Doesn't that somewhat defeat the object? If they can make 14,000 loan cars for customers whose cars are late...

Pretty sure they won't be new, or at least not all of them...

Seems a daft solution anyway, if they are new and say models that are lying surplus or with unpopular engine/trim levels. Then what happens to them when the loan period is over?? :S

But why would they be making cars that nobody wants and without a customer order when customers are waiting?

I'm absolutely with you, I can see no point in that either. But I'm not exactly sure where they lay their hands on 14,000 motors either...

Did anyone say the loan car would be a Skoda? Kia Picanto anyone?!

The loan cars will not be new, some might be quiet old. I guess they will use cars that are being part exchanged, or that have been sitting on the forecourts for a while, I'll also expect them to be a mixture of brands.

I would use your own insurance and simply transfer it over to the loan car, that way you dont have to worry about suspending policies or weird clauses in the policy.

Picked up the loan car today...

Was it a Roomster, or a tired old trade-in, a Fabia VRS (yeah right) or even a Superb...?

Nope, it's a 60 plate (Sept 2010) Octavia Elegance DSG Diesel with just over 1,000 miles under her belt. It seems the loan cars must be "dealer stock", less than 12 months old and with less than 10,000 miles on the clock. Can't really fault it, apart from the colour... bright red  but hey, beggars can't be choosers right! Credit to my salesman... he made sure I got a DSG as that's what I'm getting in the Superb B)

Whilst I was at the dealers, I happened to see my wife's new Fabia being unloaded from the transporter too, so got a picture of that in its "shipping" livery :DB)

Nice- albeit a poor second to your Superb. I quite like the Octy in Red

That's not a bed effort to be fair. And I like them in red :)

Could have been a lot, lot worse

Yep, can't fault the efforts of the dealer, or Skoda UK for the kind offer :)

Only problem is my insurance wont touch it because it's already insured by the dealer. Will have a chat with the dealer tomorrow to see if there's a way forward as I'd rather have it on mine than risk the dealer's excess.

Not had a chance to stretch it's legs just yet. The Bolero works well with the SD card... reading mp3's is instantaneous...! Loving the DSG too B)

Can't see the problem with that. There's no issue with having two policies attached to one vehicle, surely?

Otherwise those 'day insure' policies and short-terms wouldn't be possible, if you want to use someone else's car.

I'm with Direct Line, perhaps it's just their policy.

No it's not Direct Line being funny or awkward, dual insurance is not permitted on a vehicle insured in the UK. I used to work in the industry and would suggest covering it on your own policy because you know exactly what's covered.
