Car needs a detail - who to use?

Featured Replies

I've had the car five years now and it needs a good sort out as a treat for all the service it's given the family. However, I live in Scarborough and wondered if anyone knows of a good quality detailer in the vacinity? I see the wonderful work that Baker21 does and would love that quality of work.

Someone in the local area has been recommended, but only charges £25 and having seen his work, I can see why. It's not that bad, but not very good if you know what I mean. Scratches and swirls aplenty even after a so called detail.

So any thoughts would be welcomed.

Cheers

Andrew.

Give Baker a pm, he knows of detailers in your area

Give Oggy a PM

He lives at Chesterfield, but works from Shark Performance HQ @ Mansfield as well, so not too far and definitely worth the travelling time

Top man and Top Top detailer

Cheers

Try Dave Naxton, he's based in Harrogate and came to me in Middlesbrough to do a valet on my Octy when I got it. He also gave me some useful tips when my 968 was used for a detailing demo at a car show.

Apart from our very own Baker21 the only company local-ish to you I'd recommend is Dave Naxton of DPN.

I use Autoshine who are based in Wakefield. Here's some pics from when I had the 500 detailed.

Looks clean, I might be able to tie it in with a visit to family in West Yorks.

I know, it's all relative. Sometimes Scarborough feels quite isolated though, even though it's not that far north.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look and see who might be suitable in terms of fitting around work etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a detailer in the north west around Lancaster/Preston?

Have a look at the link that Baker21 provided, you'll find a few there I'm sure.

How much does a 5 star car wash actually cost??

You really can't compare the time, skill and attention to detail that the really professional detailers provide, to a "car wash". A good detail including paint correction will be at least £250, possibly more.

Looks like DPN are as near as it gets, has anyone used the life polish services such as diamondbrite?

I had the car Dimondbrited when new and it has kept it looking pretty good up to this point. People comment on how clean it looks and TBH I don't wash it more than once every 4-6 weeks. I think the effect is wearing thin now after five years, but I have used the correct shampoo and conditioner for 99% of the washes. I think any car would have to be given a paint correction by someone first, otherwise it's not worth the expense.

I had it done for £100 at the time and as a percentage of a new car that wasn't bad I thought. It's done well, but others may not agree.

Update : I washed the car this morning and thought I'd put up a few pics of what the car looks like at the moment. Don't forget this has never been detailed properly and I'm only showing these so that lucy_t can see what a Diamondbrited car looks like after five years.

Tahnks for the photo's, that is quite a good finish after 5 years, DPN will charge £200 to clean and diamondbrite, is that what you would think is the going rate?

Depends what the 'clean' means?
