octy vrs suspension

Featured Replies

hi all,

was thinking about new springs for the octy! as my budget is tight after remap and exhaust system have not got enough for proper kits!

after the bad time the best 2 weeks with car....... 2 weeks ago, one cold morning when setting off to work there was a loud bang that came from the front drivers side!

thought the spring had broke! got the wife to take it to the skoda garage where she worked!

mechanic told her that it might be a stone in the shoe!

then after looking at it more they said that my top mount struts had broke! so they ordered the parts up! so on the friday last week they went about fixing it. about 10am phone rang and the wife i told me they had found the problem!

 broke spring on drivers side :thumbdwn:

so it was in this morning and had spring changed! sounds much better! as when i turned the steering broken spring would ping about!

funny thing was, that they would only change one of them on the warranty and that the other side would be fine

so i thought i would get a better set of springs all round the car and lower it aswell!

any of you guys have a good choice??

thanks for time

chris

yeah mate just springs the now! cant afford the full suspension kits the now!

unmatched springs and dampers will not be good, shortened springs on stock dampers were very fidegty and bouncy at low speed on my old car,and if you are gonna change the dampers you may as well wait and get it all set up at once, geometry ain't cheap.

i'm pricing some up at the moment, FK look a good bet, using koni dampers if my sources tell me correctly, and not too expensive

I must agree with Jason the worst thing I ever did to my vrs was to just fit springs it made it skittle around like a good un and on B roads you couldn't drive more than 50mph. Don't do the springs it ruins the car !!! :thumbdwn:

ok.... so maybe just hold out for a set of coilovers???

cheapest i have seen is 429 for octy vrs

Don't buy cheap coilovers because they're cheap... spend the extra and get the better quality ones (stainless steel is what I'm being recommended all the time, as I'm planning on going the coilover route). That advice is what was told to me by a few people that have spent a fortune in suspension over the years, including learning the hard way through mistakes...

Im considering Spax RSX coilovers and Eibach ARB's does anyone have these?

Total fitted

rob t over on cupra net has rsx on his ibiza track car, seems very happy with them, iirc they are around 18mths -2 years old.on a road car i'd say you wouldn't have any worries

what are you looking for out of the suspension? do you want it lower or handle better?

just a thought as upgrading the roll bars might be a cheaper option for you

really after both!!

want to lower it a little, but not to much as my local council are now putting speed bumps up nearly ever street!

and just to get better handling! dont think standard ones are doing the job!

Trackday use?, the standard set up is too soft even for the road IMO ,

Steve

Bushes and ARBs

wouldnt be that dear would they? sure someone can help on approx costs for ARB's

if u dont mind me asking, how much would fitting be for the ARB's?
