20% Vat Free discount

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Lurking for a while. Hope those who have taken up the 20% discount offer can help with a quote I got from a dealer today. Didn't look at it until I got home but makes no sense.

DEALER Quote : Fab Hatch SE 1.6 105 bhp, no met paint = £11,327.50 inc vat, RFL and delivery

but surely it should be 10762.50 (basic price) - (10762.50*0.2- 2152.50 for discount) = (8610 + 425.53 delivery)*1.2 = 10842.64 + 55 = 10897.64.

Why the difference of 429.86?? Is base price not the same as recommended basic as listed in the brochure? Will call the dealer tomorrow but good to be armed with the facts!!

Confused and thanks for any help in advance.

You don't multiply by 0.2 as you are taking 20% off the price which has already had 20% put on... It is 0.166r you have to use to work it out.

If something was £100 plus Vat it would be £120 but if you take 20% off the inc vat price you get £96 B)

Have you considered the Fabia Monte Carlo for pretty much the same price?

Go to Drivethedeal.com to compare the prices.

Your maths are wrong unfortunately. The 20% discount is applied to the basic RRP of the car.

To work out the VAT, which should be printed in the brochure anyway, is worked out by dividing the basic RRP by 1.2 to get the price before VAT.

For instance £10000 + VAT would be £12000. If you multiply £12000 by 0.2 though you're only working out 20% of the resulting number, not working back to the original number that 20% was added to. Make sense?

Basically just take the VAT of the basic RRP as printed in the brochure and that's your discount. If you add extras then add the VAT, again as printed, to your discount total.

Extras are 'VAT' free too. On the Road costs iirc aren't VAT free.

That's correct.

I did the same at the dealer... :S felt a little bit foolish...

Thanks guys for your quick responses and saving me from looking like a right plonker!!! Will look into the Monte Carlo.

Any extras you would recommend? I-phone hands free connectivity for both music and calls would be the key thing I would be interested in.

As an aside how do VW sell any Polos, price premium over Fab is ridiculous.

Will update when decision is made!!

No problem - easy done and clever marketing too! Here is the link to the Monte Carlo seeing as Skoda UK have no info on it even though you can order it! http://ws.skoda-auto.com/download/MC/index.htm

We've ordered a Fabia vRS estate as it was the only v. fast supermini estate car we could find at the sort of money we wanted to spend. Missus wanted a small estate car, I wanted a hot hatch for purely selfish reasons and we found the perfect compromise. I'm more than happy to put up with a very firm ride and shiny hard interior plastics to have a 180hp small car with a DSG gearbox.

The Fabia is certainly is alot of car for the money and has inherrited alot of the new VAG group technology, certainly where drivechain, ICE and safety systems are concerned.

However I have to stick up for the VW Polo. Whilst it is it really over priced (briefly toyed with the idea of a 1.2 TSi SEL 5 door but boot size and cost completely put us off) it has to be said that the general design and the quality of the materials used do largely better that of the Fabia. It also runs on a more modern platform (like the Ibiza) which helps it be that bit more refined. We had a 1.2 Moda as a courtesy car a while back and I was hugely impressed; it really is a mini MK6 Golf, you cant say the same of the Fabia.

Sure when the Fabia eventually gets refreshed it probably will be a much better proposition than the Polo but at the moment I really cannot say with honesty that the current Fabia is the better car. The Fabia is great as it offers quirky VAG group engineering at a much lower cost, but if you look its easy to see where those savings are made.

whats the difference between tdi cr 75/90/105? is it just a chip or is there more to it, looking to order soon but cant decide on engine

I got caught with the same calculations. The documentation doesn't seem to explain it very well.

Anyway, in the end, the saleman and I sat down each armed with a calculator to make sure we matched pound for pound.

I wasn't happy with his initial calculations and afterwards he admitted he'd got some wrong.

Turns out he could have done me out of 500 odd quid. Still, at least he was honest!

I think the 20 percent off is a great deal, but they may decide to hold back on any part ex price as a result.

Thanks,

Mat

Hi Tony2311, as far as I know it is purely a mapping change. I personally however would avoid the 75 and 90ps variants, the 105ps is the one to have. If you like turbo petrols, arent overly concerned with MPG (will be good but not as good as a diesel of course) and arent doing much in the way of annual mileage I would seriously consider a 1.2 TSi 105ps. Overall quicker and smoother than the CR, still capable of a good 45-50 mpg once bedded in.

Just to update, I have ordered a 1.6 105 hatch in SE trim. Have to wait 4 months for it to turn up though. Engine across VAG group is very popular.

My commute is 30 mile dual carriageway run, so felt this was the best compromise between performance and economy. Hopefully I will get 60 MPG if I stay around the 70mph mark.

I do 20,000 a year so will have to be diesel, it will be a company car aswell, surely it will be cheaper to get it chip then paying £800 Skoda wants , as there is no difference apart from chip

Some people may not consider an £800 saving when there is a possibility of Skoda voiding the three year drivetrain warranty. Back on topic though...

You will probably find there are certain spec differences between identical engines with different power outputs, stronger internals, piston oil cooling and a different turbo to go with the different mapping.
