New Badge and De-Wiper'd

Featured Replies

Decided to de-wiper at the same time as fitting the new badge bought on the Group Buy.

The badge is the standard skoda badge but silver and black only. They are great quality and fit perfectly.

De-wipering was easily done once the wiper was off the spline. Its already to go back on when the car goes back in a few years. Just need to order a decent plug for the hole. Have fitted a temporary one for the moment. No errors on the dash or when the rear wiper is activated. The washer pipe still works though, but this is okay as long as i dont press it. Might look at disconnecting and plugging at the fluid bottle end.

This pretty much completes the rear end look.

Some rubbishy pics any way:

I've never really understood the whole 'de-wiper' trend/concept, but the badge looks nice :)

Me neither especially as from 95% of angles the spoiler covers it from view anyway. Each to their own I suppose

You need a black & white vRS badge now to complete the look.

Like it though! Looks good.

Have de-badged mine too. Can't de-wiper though as you wouldn't be able to see a thing out of the back of an estate at this time of year otherwise!

Was just thinking that, about the vRS badge. Stands out a big more now. I'd probably remove it myself, and just leave the Skoda badge on its own.

I'll wait for the plug before posting proper pics of the wiperless rear. it looks clean. And if i get bored i can pop it back on. I've been trialling what it will be like without one by not using it at all this month during these wet days. get up to speed and rain flies off. we'll see.

Was thinking after posting that the green on the vRS badge needs to go.

yes, black where the green is and white where the red is.

will sort soon.

Saw a pic of your car on the Stubby aerial thread and adjusted it for you to see:

can you give us a run down of how you got the octavia badge off.

and how you tidied the paintwork afterwards.

Parking sensors look alright, everything else looks crap to me, sorry. Black & white combination makes it look too plastic.

I really don't understand this de-wiper stuff, I would really miss it, as the rear window can get really dirty.

But hey, if you like it - that's the only thing that counts.

Personal tastes and all that...

For me. it harks aback to the days when read wash/wipe was an optional extra, along with radios...

I'm one of the form following function brigade. Of course I want whatever to look good but not at the expense of something useful. Yes water does clean the window but only at motorway speeds, so if you drive around slowly in poor conditions your visibility is hampered which to me is the most important thing. Regarding the monochrome thing you're always going to have red rear lights (unless you get some of those awful black LEDs), so I'd leave the green on personally.

Not sure how the OP did it but, as far as I'm aware, they're just glued on. Heat with a hairdryer, and tease off with some tooth floss or similar!

There are a few threads on here describing how others have removed badges.

Skoda did mine prior to collection, and did leave some tiny scratches. Was annoyed for a day or two, but they came out with Scratch X & a polish.

Audi A4's seem to make do without rear wipers. We'll see, if it's crap it'll go back on. :)

As for the new badge, they are great quality and what's not picked up in the photo's is that the silver is shiney.

But A4s are saloons! On a slightly related note why don't saloons have rear wipers? Some Subarus used to have them but no-one else bothered.

The Octy VRS hatch doesn't need a rear wiper. I'm sure the estate benefits from one though.

prolfe - Best thing to do when you get a chance is deactivate the rear washer in VCDS, which stops it properly. Also, as an extra safeguard, bend the pipe back on itself at the washer end with a 180degree kink and tape it in place.

I've tried a rubber bung (looks rubbish) and two types of glass blank. Do not get one from Venom Motorsport or ebay - I found the fit was terrible. I strongly advise you to get one from gecleant.de. Just get the blank from them, don't bother with their glue. I've tried three types of adhesive including theirs and the best by far and what is still on mine is some stuff called "serious glue" which I picked up on a whim from b&q. Only use a really thin bead of glue so it doesn't seep up the gap and look bad. Clean the area first with IPA or similar and make sure that's all wiped off / evaporated before fitting the blank with the glue.

In true Meatloaf style.......

"You took the words right out of my mouth"

like the look of badge, but the wiper thing nothing worse than a bright yellow and blue car coming up behind you and not noticing!!!

Where did you get the badge, i think i may have missed it in the post?

Trust me, my vRS needs a rear wiper! I use it fairly regularly in the bad weather regardless of speed

It was the badge group buy. PM patsyboy and ask. I chose the design and colour scheme. I wanted it to look standard as possible.

Tbh the wiper thing for visibility is gonna be no worse and if anything better than tinted windows.

Correct they are. I bet the screen is of a similar rake to the octy. What about the a5, does it have one. Can't picture it.

Edit: just had a look. They don't either.

cheers, am plug hunting today so will have a look. The pipe has been bent back twice and taped.

it was provided by the manufacturer as a safety device

If it were a safety device it would be tested by the MOT.

Saloon cars, even with short boots aren't fitted with rear wipers. The Octavia hatch gets one by default because it's a hatch, but look how different the shape of the rear is compared to say a Golf (where I agree the rear screen will get dirty). Especially with the spoiler on the VRS, the Octy hatch rear screen is shielded from dirt getting sprayed up from the road.

My glass gets cleaned when I wash my car pretty much weekly and is treated with Rain-X and I have had zero problems with rear visibility since removing the wiper.

I like my wiper and my badge............

Make sure you tell the insurance that you have removed your rear wiper -- it was provided by the manufacturer as a safety device. You wouldn't start deactivating other safety devices such as airbags, so why take the wiper off, just to supposedly look better???

The wiper on the Octavia hatch is not essential ,in comparison to those on my Golf Hatch or my Passat Estate. The estate window would have been opaque after driving a few days on the agricultural Derbyshire roads. I do like to wipe my wet rear screen before reversing.
