Dead battery?

Featured Replies

Having power problems, suspect battery..

Driving to the airport last week and the engine warning light came on (similar when a ignition coil fails) but no real loss of power. Picked up passengers and light had gone, car seemed fine.

Noticed afterwards that it was taking a bit more effort to start the engine, just sounded a bit weaker.

Eventually gave up the over day and only turned over once or twice. I stuck the headlights on full beam and tried again, lights working but I got 3 long beeps coming from the dash - presume this is a power fault?

Took the battery out tonight and the 'magic eye' is clear no colour at all.

Is it worth trying to charge up the battery to see if it holds a charge or should I just replace it?

Pretty sure it's the original battery (Akuma) and it's an 06 model so would be about 5 yrs old I guess.

Any advice guys?

Cheers!

Could it be an alternator fault (sometimes the alternator/earth cable fails)

Hi Ianbirt

Yes you could try charging the battery, but before you took it off, I would have measured the voltage, first without the engine running, then when the engine running, and then that would say if it was the battery, or the Alternator (or any thing in between)

But as you have already taken it off, measure the voltage, then put it on charge over night, then put it back on the car, then start it up and measure with the engine running ,and report back with the readings
