what oil

Featured Replies

im wonting to do a oil change on my 2001 vrs and wonder what oil people recommend.

been told castrol magnetec 5/40 fully synthetic is good stuff to use

It is indeed very good stuff.

The vRS is a bit weird when it comes to oil. It has two different service intervals.

IF you are gonna change it regularly (6 months - 1year (10k max)), get something with the VW502.00 approval. It's usually 5w30 or 5w40. Can get it for £15-20 a can.

If you want to use the variable (2 year) interval, you need longlife oil which has the VW504.00 approval. It's usually about £45 a bottle.

What sort of mileage do you cover?

I just get all my stuff from skoda oil, oil filter and sump plug all for under £30.

where i live on the isle of wight the mileage is pretty low.

probably about 7000 a year tops.

i will go with the 6-12 months interval,

anyone used opie oils?

I just go on VW Spares and order VAG's own Quantum stuff. Seems reasonably priced although admittedly I've never been in to a dealer to see how much they'd charge for 5l.

Second that, Quantum Platinum 5W 40 its rated to the correct specs and its what VW/Audi/Skoda use and its the cheapest. Get yourself to TPS.

Dealer price with filter and sump plug is under £30
