limp mode

Featured Replies

Used my car for work yesterday, on the way up 100 miles the car felt awesome, I was really happy with the way she ran. Then on the way home I noticed it was down on power, when I turned it on and off the power came back for a short while.

When I got home I scanned the car and had an overboost and a 17705 code, I popped the bonnet and noticed a small vac leak due to some slightly too large hose clamps. I also noticed the MAP sensor cable had been rubbing against the aux belt and had burned through 2 wires causing a short. I soldered the cable and thought this was going to sort the issue. Took it for a spin and had no problem. Then on the way home from work tonight it went back into limp mode. I scanned the car and only the 17705 code is showing. Any suggestions what might be happening? I put a new MAF and N75 in last year so don't think it would be this. The only thing I can think of is maybe the pipe that connects to the pancake has popped off? How easy is it to check this?

I also wonder if the MAP sensor has been killed by the short?

I am at times getting full boost so I'm guessing it's not a goosed turbo.

This is very annoying as I was really happy with how it was running. I've got it booked into R-Tech week after next but I would like to see if I can sort it before.

Cheers

MIke

I have recently had a similar problem and the diagnostic check showed the following ;

17965 - P1557 Charge Pressure Control - Intermittent DeviationCan any body shed some light on this please?

the code I got yesterday was 17963. I reckon my N75 has given up or my MAP sensor is screwed, or maybe my actuator needs adjusting? Will have another look tomorrow if not then I'll leave it to R-tech to sort.

I shall be ordering my weitecs and RARB on Monday, also bought some ECS coil pack hold down's today.

Damn this forum is costing me a fortune!!!

right today I checked the pancake pipe, emptied my catch can (mainly of water) Remade all my vac connections and used tighter hose claps on a couple of the looser connections, took the dump valve apart and refitted. I took the N75 out and blew through all the pipes and the valve before reconnecting it. I then fitted my boost gauge albeit through the window as I couldn't get my wipers off :giggle: Took the car for a 10 mile thrash and she is making good boost, holding it all the way and no issues at all  still not 100% sure the issues with my car are resolved so am still going to take it up to r-tech and get it on the rollers and see what they find.

so to finish this off in case anybody has this issue. Having thought I'd fixed it I hadn't, I drove it today for work and it went into limp mode, luckily R-tech managed to squeeze me in today as I was in the area. The only code showing on the car was the 17705 which is a pressure drop code indicating a possible vac leak. They gave the car a good looking over and smoke pressure tested the system which showed no leaks (I didn't think there would be a leak as Clive had done a grand job sorting my vac system). They said it was nothing sinister and was most probably down to the MAP sensor or possibly the CTS, they said the easiest and best thing to do was to map out the fault code as it wasn't an issue. They uploaded a different map that had the code removed, this map had also been tweaked compared to my old map, this map picks up quicker and more aggressively and has a red line of 7100rpm B) I was happy with my last map but this new one is even better

On the way hone down the motorway an S3 came up my backside so I moved into the middle lane and booted it and started to pull away from him  until a van pulled out into my lane :dull:

They spent about 1.5 hours looking at the car and putting the different map on and charged me nothing even though the fault I had had nothing to do with anything that they had done previously

These guys are brilliant and really know their stuff. If your car is running poorly or you are after a remap then R tech is the place to go.

Whilst I was up there a guy had brought is 115bhp TDi golf down from Scotland that had been remapped by someone else, Nick put one of his maps on and it was putting out an extra 20bhp and loads more torque and the map was way smoother. He has done back-back runs on the rolling road and it was a massive improvement.

It's a shame they don't frequent this forum as they have a lot to offer.

All together I am a very happy boy and can't wait till Castle Combe.
