OIL TEMPERATURE DISPLAY ON MAXIDOT

Featured Replies

First Monster did not have this feature; missed out by being built 3 weeks before its introduction in WK45/09. Current Yeti built WK14/11 is on T&D and displaying oil temps (my normal page for maxidot).

TP

My Yeti Elegance spec. had it's first annual service recently having covered 8000 miles.

Driving home I noticed the oil temp. readout on the maxidot wasn't working. Notified the Dealer who investigated. Their diagnostic could not identify fault on first attempt.

On second visit it was discovered that oil temp. only displays if VARIABLE service interval is selected ( factory default setting ).

They had re-set mine to FIXED INTERVAL service because of my low annual mileage thereby disabling the readout.

I elected to have the VARIABLE restored so that I can monitor oil temp. although I will still have annual service irrespective of mileage covered.

Anyone else who has same problem can tell the garage what's going on and avoid unnecessary trips to get it sorted.

I replaced my Octavia Elegance for a new 1.4 Yeti and on the journey home noted that the oil temp would only show the 3 bars. Oil temp is my default setting so it was booked in for a check. They replaced a sensor which made no difference and are fitting a "dash insert" at the end of the month. I too looked the available settings on the maxidot, but I couldn't find anything to do with oil temp. Fingers crossed the next visit will cure the problem.

3 bars just means oil temp. is under 50C...

Indeed. Patience is a virtue. Drive a bit longer and the oil temperature will show up as soon as it goes past 50 degrees C.

Is 70 miles far enough? That was how far it took me to return the 16 miles home. My Octy had maxidot and from the word go oil temp was the setting I used from cold. It is surprising how much further you can drive after the water temp has stabilised in winter before the oil temp hits 90+.

70 miles certainly IS more than far enough. In case your dealer DID fiddle with your settings, can I suggest you deselect the display in Maxidot for one driving session and then restore it for the next. This may reset the display to function correctly again? Good luck; whatever the outcome, whatever the cause, please let us know if you/they do ever get it working. Thanks.

HI EVERYBODY,

It's a year since I started this discussion about OIL TEMP display. Just had my second annual service and the issue of the maxidot displaying the oil temp. came up again. Once again the dealer was certain that in order to have this function enabled my car must be set on VARIABLE SERVICE INTERVAL. i.e. does not display on time & distance servicing option. To clarify, my Yeti 170 CR TDI ELEGANCE was registered late December 2009 on a '59 plate so the suggestion that later models were wired up differently seems the most plausible explanation for the reports that some cars will give an oil temp readout on both servicing options.

Cheers

Big thanks to Jonny5ive for his VCDS magic this pm.

I now have a fully functioning oil temperature display on my Maxidot - something my inept dealers twice failed to activate and then suggested it wasn't possible :p

Robin,

excellent news-j5l could put a lot of in a happier frame of mind by publishing the trick!

John

My early 2010 is on variable and I don't have it - but I want it. :(

Dealer says: "just doesn't have it on your one...."

Obviously, judging by this thread, I just need someone with half a clue to activate it for me.

something my inept dealers twice failed to activate twice and then suggested it wasn't possible :p

It may not be possible with the kit that dealers have - they don't get VCDS.

^ Allams tried this for me today - and.....still no option for oil temp display in the MFD. :( ^

Drat!

Might still be worth seeking out a friendly VCDS owner though - jonny5ive used the VCDS info I posted above to activate mine.

You know this Briskoda community is a fine place to be
