Please help,I'm almost penniless

Featured Replies

I would be eternally gratefull for any input to the following problem. On my Octavia 1.6lxi it keeps misfiring like a tank so been into garage and it showed a fault on airflow meter so after having this replaced and 1 temperature sensor, new plugs, leads and fuel filter it has run like a dream for 1200 miles but it has just started running like a bag of spanners again at any point either hot or cold it justs misfires and if you keep your foot flat to floor it almost dies until suddenly picking up again but if you leave your foot flat to the boards it just misses constantly. It might go 100 miles or 100 yards between this happening.Been back into garage for the last 2 days but they are at a loss as to what the problem is .

Sounds like an air mass meter for sure.

Had a couple of them recently go down after being replaced.

Get them to check the MAF again.

Thanks for the quick reply, why do the MAF's break down again is it a fault that will go on and on ??? also when it was put onto the computer the fault code said it was the MAF but at no point has the engine management light ever come on ?? which no one can understand

I think that dealer-supplied Skoda replacement parts which you pay for come with a 12 month warranty. OTOH VW parts have a 24 month warranty. (I noticed that subtle difference when I bought a spare coilpack from a VW/Audi dealer then an identical one from a Skoda dealer).

Was thinking it sounds a lot like the coilpack issues the turbo cars suffered from... does the 1.6 use the same coilpacks, or is it a different ignition system?

Don't honestly know but a replacement has been mentioned but obviously it is a suck it and see method but unfortunately the costs keep going up and up ???? Not good for ones pocket

If you do have the same coilpacks, I've heard they're not at all expensive... know of a few people that have changed them "just in case". Get a price for them - you may be surprised ;)

The 1.6 doesn't use coilpacks.

Does sound like the MAF sensor might have gone again...

I don't know if it's barking up the wrong tree, but it might be worth getting them to check the crank position sensor if the problem persists - about

Well guys and girls we are still at it !! Car goes in tomorrow for its 2nd MAF sensor as this appears to be at fault AGAIN. Keep you posted as to the result

It should be replaced FOC. The Skoda Octavia Service Schedule has the following information in it at the back:

Skoda Dealers in Europe offer a 12-month warranty on Genuine Parts from the date of purchase or fitting. You should, therefore, keep the bill from your Skoda Dealer for 12 months as proof of commencement of the warranty period.
